The diet looks well rounded, but in this sample, I do not understand why they use unsalted tub margarine. Doesn't it contain trans fats, albeit in smaller amounts than regular margarine? Also, couldn't one use olive oil rather than canola oil to saute the green beans? It's also good for you and has considerably more flavor.

Is there a version of the DASH diet that would be helpful for persons with taste buds that grew up on East Asian/Southeast Asian flavors?

I too am a little leery of the high carb content in this diet. Low fat on a package means added sugar; not a good choice for diabetics for sure.

And hasn't the margarine over butter myth been debunked? I think sweet butter is a better alternative to hydrolyzed oil spread (yuck). Simply taking processed foods out of the equation can make a huge difference but if you come from a bloodline like mean it doesn't make that much of a dent; I haven't eaten a mammal in over 30 years but was diagnosed hypertensive at the age of 46!!

As a diabetic this sample menu has way too many carbs for me. Particularly in the morning. My BG would go up too much if I had the breakfast suggeted here.

Someone needs to estimate values for beans, legumes, grains - otherwise, this looks like too much to eat at times.
