"The Cleveland Clinic Says" is not proof. Association is not proof. It's bad science. We know that obesity rates are still rising and arteriel diseases are still rampant. You'd think if they were right, this past 40 years of demonizing fats would have helped, but noooo, it's only getting worse. There's not one person in the CC or anywhere else that can demonstrate how fats and cholesterol hurt us. They will spout theories and rhetoric, but they cannot supply demonstrable evidence because it doesn't exist. Pfft.
The most convincing evidence is not LDL quantity but LDL quality. The small, dense LDLs are shown to be much more dangerous and the large fluffy ones benign. Evidence suggests these puppies oxydize much more readily. But the CC and DR. Oz and everybody else being funded by big business refuses to publicly acknowledge the known cause of such particles. They refuse to admit they were wrong, are killing people with their bad advice, and most importantly they refuse to risk their funding by Big Sugah and Big Pharma.
Sugar causes LDL degredation through excess triglyceride production. It's pretty clear, demonstrable science. Saturated fats float around in chlyomicrons which have nothing to do with trigs and ldl creation. At least 80% of fats in plaque are PUFAs. And we call SFAs deadly because the make our LDL number bigger. That's because they make the LDL particles bigger and benign.
Can we please give our heads a shake and start making some sensible policy based on the best science available? Please!
