All I can say is wow... who paid you off to write this nonsense? FAKE food is NEVER healthier than natural food. NEVER. Margarine is NOT healthier than real butter made from sweet cream! Low fat milk is NOT healthier than whole milk. It's not natural. Saturated fat is not the enemy. Only TRANS fat is BAD fat. This nutritionally incorrect information that you are tauting as fact is the precise reason for the current obesity epidemic in the United States and worldwide. What has a low-fat diet mixed with fake foods gotten us? FAT and unhealthy!! Stop the madness!

This is some of the worst nutritional advice I've ever seen. Outdated, unresearched, and therefore irresponsible. If anyone takes the advice in this article, I guarantee you they will end up overweight, diabetic, and well on their way to metabolic Syndrome X.

The real answers are all exactly the opposite of these recommendations. Olive oil is better for you, canola oil is a sham. Butter is WAY better for you than anything made with vegetable oil, because our bodies are engineered to recognize animal products, not manufactured, processed sludge. I'll show you a vegetable, and you show me where the oil is. Exactly. And actually, the question about milk is moot because you should have neither low-fat or skim, you should have full fat, nonhomogenized raw milk. Our bodies don't recognize the white milk-like substance we call milk these days. And fresh veggies are ALWAYS better, especially when local and seasonal. All of this information is out there, you only have to look for it, and clearly US News did not.

Think about it. We're fatter, sicker, and feel worse than we have ever before in history. Hmm...it couldn't have anything to do with the food recommendations of the past 50 years, could it? I challenge every person reading this to think for themselves, do the research, and make decisions for your own health.

The simple truth: Anything with a label is not food. The plants and animals on farms do not have nutrition labels or UPC codes tattooed on their bodies. So what should we eat? Food, I say -- plants and animals. All else may be edible, but is not food.

Study after study has shown no link between saturated fat and heart disease, yet we keep getting mis-informed articles like these. Margarine is more likely to contain oxidized PUFAs and excessive omega-6s which offset the important omega-3/omega-6 balance. Butter is clearly the healthier choice.

We should be concerned about excessive carbohydrates from sugar and grain, not saturated fat! Studies show diabetes and insulin resistance from excessive carbs to be major heart attack risk factors, whereas saturated fat intake isn't one at all.

Who really cares how she spells dietitian? Doesn't look like the point of her article to me. Does her message come across any less because one word is misspelled?

I'm glad that these experts agree that margarine is clearly a healtheir choice than butter. Just because something's "natural" does not make it healthier for your body. Butter is loaded with saturated fat while almost every soft margarine product now shows “0 grams trans fats” on its label. I’ve learned a lot about this subject because I work with the National Association of Margarine Manufacturers. In addition, heart disease runs in my family so I’ve got a personal interest in this subject as well. Check out my blog at www.iheartmargarine.com

Ms. Dubansky,

Please learn the correct spelling for the experts you are highlighting in your article. Dietitian is the correct spelling...no "c". In your own article you spell it both correctly and incorrectly. Simple spell checking and editing would have caught this huge error.

I give up on food.........i mean idk what to eat anymore. What i think is good is actually not good at all.......

chips of IL 4:00PM July 20, 2010

then how come as someone who is in recovery for an eating disorder does my dietician REQUIRE that i drink 2% milk? i think that i've done enough damage to my body and if skim or 1% was clearly the better choice, my dietician would require me to drink 1% or skim. no diet foods for this girl!

laura of IL 1:52PM July 20, 2010

If you haven't ever tried organic skim milk, you should. It tastes like it has a high fat content but doesn't! And it stays fresher in the refrigerator a lot longer than ordinary milk.
