Wow, this is very interesting. I grew up in Arizona and moved to Los Angeles as an adult and you can see the difference between people's sizes from LA to back home. It is drastic. LA people just care more and work harder at staying fit, even if it is for vanity. I started ExerciseTV when I first moved just to keep up!
