Beautiful article, thank you! Except for some misinformation about Omega 3s. Fish get their omega 3s from algae and so can we, cutting out the middle man, the mercury, the cruelty, and the environmental degradation. If we don't curb our fish habit soon we are going to wipe out all of the whales and dolphins. 500 penguins washed up dead on the coast of South America year, all with empty stomachs. They died of starvation. You can now buy vegan algae based Omega 3s, DHA in particular, on line or at any Whole Foods. It's the way to go.

A well balanced vegan diet is not short of any nutrients as long as the food is not processed or fried.

Dairy products are a poor source of calcium and in fact can lead to a net loss of calcium as they can increase the body's acidity to the point that calcium from bones is needed to balance the PH. Green leafy vegetables are loaded with calcium which is easily metabolized.

We are hunters and gatherers. Our IQ's and body size increased once the hunting began. I do believe that one should eat less meat and more veggies & fruits. No eggs, dairy products and meat sounds way too restrictive and unhealthy to me.

I became a vegan a year ago after reading about factory farming and seeing the movie Earthlings. As a side benefit, my health has never been better and I've lost a lot of weight. I've been surprised at how much I enjoy vegan food. I've also saved a lot of money by not buying meat. I try to eat mainly organic foods to avoid GMOs which can effect vegans disproportionately because we eat more soy than most people. I get iodine from Sea Seasonings Kelp and Dulse. I get B12 from Red Star yeast. I get vitamin D from the sun and from a good multi-vitamin called Country Life Women's Daily Nutrition. I also supplement DHA sourced from algae.

Is so important to have a healthy lifestyle. My husband had many health problems because of being overweight. I'm so happy to after so many failures he found a healthy weight loss program from TIPSTODIET.COM and he succeed to lose around 40 lbs in a very short period of time. And the most important, he still maintain this weight. Good luck to all!

Vegan diets are not "extreme". What is EXTREME is Going into the hospital for open heart surgery, having your chest sawed open and spread apart, having your heart stopped so that arteries can be cut and tied, to by-pass the clogged arteries due to eating a meat/dairy diet. Give me vegan any day!.
