Artificial sweeteners are poison. Try watching what you eat and walk it off. That is the easy way , burn more than you put in fuel tank. I just got a fit bit, a calorie, sleep and step tracker works great.articles on splenda andbother poisons are a google away

Drinking beer is one the worst diets i had while eating healthy. Recently, i started drinking low calorie Voli Vodka to replace beer. http://bit.ly/uXtoZe

Splenda & Equal are not always a healthy option either. The stuff rots your brain.

Why is there no discussion of whole foods and whole grains in this article? Other than that, reasonably good points.

However, the salad & dressing issue is misleading. If all you're having for a meal is a vegetable salad, a 200 calorie serving of full-fat dressing on it makes it a 250 calorie meal. That's not bad. Plus, it allows your body to absorb all the fat-soluble vitamins in your veggies. Keeping to the 2T serving is probably the typical problem! (And, as another poster noted, the non-fat dressing might be full of sugar.) Of course, if the salad is laden with cheese, meat and croutons, add some good vinegar and skip the ranch.

My fave salad these days is a huge pile of baby greens (arugula if possible), a chopped apple, an ounce of smoked cheese, and a tablespoon of homemade honey-mustard vinaigrette. Throw a few almonds or walnuts on it, and meet all your needs.

Full fat coffee can add up to 140 calories to a cup of coffee? Only if you add close to a whole cup of milk?

Who writes this stuff? With statements like this, who can believe the accuracy of the rest of the article.

This is a fantastic article. I counsel my patients to just be more mindful. I tell them talk to yourself! Ask yourself, "why am I eating this or am I getting any nutrition from this?" Just being more cognizant can make all the difference in the world when it comes to weight loss and more importantly, maintenance.

2. Artificial sweeteners: One poster here kind of groups all artificial sweeteners in the same pot. Each one has it pros & cons. Sucralose (Splenda) has the lowest incidence rate of side effects than any other artificial sweetener. If you happen to be one of those who has a problem digesting it, then don't use it. It doesn't mean the rest of us has to quit it. I have a couple friends who are either lactose or gluten intolerant. This does not mean I'm going to give up milk or bread.

We've all gotten the email forwards about how artificial sweeteners are bad for us. Well, if it's in print on the internet, it must be true, right? It's actually been shown that almost all the bad press about artificial sweeteners originate from someone involved in the sugar industry. The sugar industry hates artificial sweeteners because it takes business away from them. If I owned a million acres of sugar cane or sugar beets, I'd be distressed too. Doesn't make it right. Don't believe me, do your research. And by research I mean if some from xyz University is quoted, go and find the source. At least 2 major quotes from reputable researchers that are in most emails & blogs we read are made up. That's right, the people quoted never said those things and have publically said so. But le

And as for people that drink artificial sweetened sodas gaining weight? There's a very good reason for that. People that drink these types of sodas usually do so because they are concerned about their weight. And these types of people usually buy other diet items as well. But here's the catch. 99% of the diet items in the grocery store are low fat or fat free. You may not like fat, but fat adds flavor. Take out the fat (flavor) and you have to add something else to improve taste. Most of the time it's ...sugar. That's right, low fat and fat free item almost always contain more sugar. Don't take my word on it. Check it out the next time you're in the grocery store. It's all on the nutritional label. And again, sugar turns into stored fat faster than the fat in foods. This is why people drinking diet sodas are gaining weight. It's not the sodas, but rather it's the other diet foods.

Now, I know some people on this forum will dispute what I say say. And I welcome all educated disputes. But please don't dispute something strictly because you read it in an email that's been floating around from one inbox, to another for years. Please, do your research. You might be surprised.
