I never liked yogurt and avoided it. The change started with Open Nature Brand (Safeway) frozern yogurt: honey Greek. Well that was good. Then a little more Greek. And look: it needn't be frozen! I'm hooked.

This article was very helpful. I just greek yogurt in a new reciepe for a sun dried tomato sauce and it gave it lots of flavor with out all the fat in sour cream.

my husband just got back from the dietician (doctor's orders)...she recommended greek yogourt with a few almonds as a healthy snack to promote the feeling of fullness. this is so true about the fullness so best to say it indeed works! now is my dilemna....the price...yikes. just because it is 'greek' the sky high prices. the new trend of enjoying this treat is not consumer friendly.. he is not content unless it actually says 'greek'. years ago i discovered how to make yogourt thicker by draining off the whey by putting it in cheese cloth overnight to make greek tzeeki. it really works and you can add your nuts or your low glycemic fruit of choice for a flavour. maybe you will enjoy my quick tip to make your own 'greek yogourt' (low in fat and high in protein).

Now I need to know the definition of "regular" yogurt. Is it "american style" yogurt, laden with sugar, stabilizers, pectin, and gelatin? Is it yogurt with all the fat taken out? To me, that's American yogurt---sweet and flavorless. To me, regular yogurt is Greek yogurt with a 2% or full-fat level, with no gelatin or sugar added. If I want flavor I can add sweet or savory.

So back to my opening question: what is "regular" yogurt?

Just Make your own. It's so easy. Just make regular yogurt and then strain overnight on a cheesecloth. The whole process takes 24 hrs, but other than monitoring the temperature of the initial yogurt making, the thing makes itself, cheap. And you control the ingredients. I add home made sugar free strawberry preserve and freeze for creamy frozen yogurt.

I am lactose intolerant and use yogurt rather than milk. I know there is lactaid milk, but I like the yogurt, plain only. Yogurt is a super food, containing calcium, phosphorus, potassium, Vitamin A, vitamin D, protein, riboflavin and vitamin B-12. I have started making my own yogurt using a slow cooker as a incubation chamber for the yogurt. I have used non-fat dry milk, whole milk, 2% milk and it all works. In the nutrition book, Foods to eat for Essential Nutrients, on amazon, yogurt is listed as a good source for those nutrients. Greek yogurt is just the flavor of the month. Plain yogurt is a really good food for everyone.

It sounds as though Greek Yogurt is the same as Lebanese Labany, wwhich is yougurt with the whey drained out.
