Worried about stuff that's added? Try making your own yogurt. Simple, Heat milk up to 180 degrees, let cool to 110 degrees, then add one small (4-8 oz) of live culture yogurt (plain) and let it sit in a warm place for 12 hours undisturbed, in your oven, over your cable box, wherever it's warm. You can make 1 quart to a gallon of the stuff for the cost of the ingredients, which is a lot less money, and tastes great. Put honey or jam in it to get fruited.Lots of great instructions on the internet. Oh, and to make greek, just pour the homemade yogurt into cheesecloth and strain out about half of the clear liquid (whey), mix and eat, yum!

I totally do not agree with your ideas on Greek yogurt, most all yogurt sold today and named Greek Yogurt is an American fake, with more added starch to make it seem thicker, etc.... Will the real Greek yogurt please stand up?
Sincerely,

I love Greek Yogurt, the full fatted flavor is heavenly! I destest the nonfat regular yogurts. Yuck.

I love the greek yogurt but also concerned about the sugar content. It has more sugar than regular yogurt even tho it has more protein also. So in that respect is the more sugar worth the extra protein?

Tony, good to know, was uncertain about what yogurt was better. Thanks for the tip. Learning something new every day, thanks.

You have missed some very important facts that makes not all yogurt equal, Greek or non-Greek. Many processed yogurts, ie. name-brand, have added sugars and worse, Aspartame. For "regular" yogurt especially, I would recommend sticking with brands that have more natural ingredients, if not organic, such as Stoney Field Farms or Brown Cow, to name 2. It's best to read the ingredients. All fruited yogurts can have a lot of sugar, organic or not. Although one might think trading sugar for aspartame is a good thing, there are a lot of health problems associated with aspartame as well. Other yogurts have sucralose (aka Splenda), another man-made sweetener that has been associated with health problems in some people, though it's generally not considered as bad as aspartame. Though Greek yogurt seems to be less likely to have the additives, it can have a lot of sugar, which for most human beings is worse than fat, and as main-stream yogurt makers get on the Greek band-wagon, I'm sure we're going to see more unwanted/unhealthy additives. The point is, all yogurt is not created equal and one should read the label!

Very good information!
Also, another healthful benefit of Greek yogurt is that, because of its thickness, it is more likely to replace whipped cream on berries or other desserts.
