Health Buzz: Junk Food Diet Helped Nutrition Professor Shed Pounds

It's true that junk food weighs very little. What the article doesn't mention are the protein shakes; if you're full of milk and malt, you won't be hungry right away. I've tried the Slimfast diet, and it's very similar. The problem is, it's very unsatisfying. One slip up after a goal is reached and those 6 Doritos quickly turn into 36 every 6th hour. I've been there done that with eating junk food on diets, and the only way I've found to accommodate chips and fries it is if I add them to heavier foods with plenty of protein (meat) and veggies. That said, I've lost plenty of weight eating off the dollar menus at fast food joints. I would just throw away half the fries and enjoy what was left with the burger and Diet Coke. Still, weeks later, I found myself ordering larger portions and spending more money for some odd reason. Food is very complicated and best taken lightly with attention paid to appreciate what is healthy so that it takes up more room.

@jolly rancher - Con job? Really? You're an idiot.

@Janet - how about using a pen and paper to track your diet?? Not comprehensive enough.

Also, you can lose weight by smoking crack.. just not the best idea.

Good article.

Moderation is the key. Eating healthy is better!

Eating foods with high calorie to bulk ratio is a big mistake. Consuming only foods that weigh very little, regardless of caloric content, will dramatically increase the feeling of hunger because the mind tends to consume an amount of food based on the weight and bulk of the food. A diet of twinkies and a vitamin is okay, except the mind will actually want 15 twinkies per meal. Professor Haub is part of a public con job.

Sugar is aging. And how did his digestive track function?

It looks like I can eat 20 Oreos a day and still lose weight! So that works out to be about 7 per meal.

On the serious side - this article made my day! Plus, I'm wondering what web site he used to track calories. I've used Lose It! but it's not comprehensive enough.
