If Obama wants to cut obesity in children, lets start with schools. Lunch programs in schools are the werst, they dont have the money to fernish fresh fruits and veggies. Obama lets try giving ower schools the money to do so, i feed my cildren fruits and veggies every meal, and weather i have the money or not they still get thim. PONDER ON THAT " MISTER BRILIENT ONE OBOMA" . No one can dout that we need a real american pres.

hey. i am a 16 yr-old- girl who was raised in a healthy family, but who also ate junk food sometimes. its not bad to eat junk food, but eat it in moderation. now if ur those people who are constantly only eating organic and homegrown foods than can be bad. i am one of those ppl who is against them banning snack food vending machines in schools because, what about those ppl who need alot of sugar or salt in their diet? or what about the ppl who r allergic to some of the veggies that they sell in the machines who dont hav money 2 by lunch or whose parents wont by food so they can pack what r they supposed 2 do starve? i for one am allergic 2 carrots, nd the whole thing where, "an apple a day keeps the doctor away", well i cant do that either, cause im allergic 2 apples.nd sometimes the reason i eat junk food is bcause im stressed bcause everyone is always telling me that eating fruits nd veggies is the way 2 go, well ya know what they r stressing kids out which is causing them 2 eat junk food which in time the become obese!

Fast food is just something like smoking in the past. It is even worse than that because it is on so many schools' lunch menu on a daily basis. I am seriously concerned about what my son is eating at school. I am considering preparing my own food for his lunch in school.

If you eat healthy food and drink healthy drinks you can't possibly go wrong . But making excuses as adults is not reality-- kids may be forced to eat, for instance, what the school cafeteria offers in many cases, but if possible layoff sugary cookies, snacks and high fructose corn sweetener sweetened products and also fried foods -- these are bad enough for the younger set but make it impossible to maintain good health for older folks especially if you don't have an even greater intake of raw fruits and vegetables on a daily bases. Eat and Drink Healthy- consistently!

Including those who are making bad decisions regarding our children's health? This isn't rocket science! Last year, my boyfriend's daughter, who is supposed to be a vegetarian, but is really a “carbotarian”, was looking for a snack to eat in my home. As she was looking through the pantry and refrigerator, she commented: There's no junk food in this house!

Guess what...she chose to eat tomatoes with fresh Mozzarella instead! Why do professionals who are supposed to have the best interest of our children at heart, and are educated, allow sodas, and unhealthy food in the schools? If kids get hungry enough, they'll eat what's in front of them. My own kids eat a variety of food, because I did not give in and make Kraft Macaroni and Cheese when they weren't thrilled with the menu I offered. And today I can trust that will make good choices. Do they eat junk food occasionally? Absolutely, and so do I, but not on a daily basis. And yes, my daughter is a current student at FM High School, and she thinks the whole thing is ridiculous since the vending machine for the baby carrots is stationed right next to the candy filled vending machine. If parents want their kids to eat junk food, let them bring it from home. But keep "dangling" the carrots and healthy food in front of our kids, not the candy. p.s. I heard the following book is pretty good: Food Politics by Marian Nestle.

Kudos to these schools for offering healthy alternatives to the typical vending machine fare. We all know that dictating behaviors to adolescents is counter productive. Also,a cookie or a pretzel as part of your daily intake is not a bad thing. In life there are always choices. We have to make the healthy ones for ourselves.

Success is not whether the carrots outsell the other machines, it's that they are selling at all.
