Of course GlaxoSmithKline helped fund the study! They paid for the medicine to do the study! Who else is going to do it? These independent studies all the critics point to are so biased that it raises my blood sugar. Lets face it, the media doesn't pay any attention to you unless you say something negative. They don't quote you in news articles unless you say something negative. They don't put you on The Today Show unless you say something negative. They don't feature you on 60 Minutes unless you say something negative. Avandia has been on the market since 1999. How big of an idiot would a physician have to be to not notice all these patients dropping dead! The fact is diabetes will kill you!!! Seventy-five percent of diabetics die from cardiovascular disease! We have know this long before Avandia was on the market. If you want to use meta analysis, and other review articles, as your source of evidence based medicine then you will see more people die. Why haven't these critics actually done a large scale, multi-centered, randomized, head to head comparison study to prove their point? They haven't done a real study because its easier just to make accusations because thats what gets the attention. If you don't want pharmaceutical companies to fund studies then please tell me... Who else is going to do it?

Don't you think that the quoted portion below should have been at least the second sentence, not the tenth paragraph, in your article? "The study was funded by the U.S. National Institutes of Health AS WELL AS GLAXOSMITHKLINE, WHICH MAKES AVANDIA." (emphasis added) By failing to address the independent studies finding significant health dangers until the fifth paragraph, the article left the impression that the science on Avandia is split when, in fact, virtually every study sanitizing Avandia was funded by GSK.
