For those who want to prevent or control their diabetes (and lower cholesterol), I recommend they should also seriously consider incorporating cinnamon in their diet. Cinnamon is known for leveling out blood sugars. You can add it to coffee in place of sugar, and it goes surprisingly well with a variety of foods, including meats. You can get regular cinnamon in the store or even get it in tablet form, but ask your doctor first before trying it. I just know it works for me. I found out by accident.
