I drink green tea, coffee, and black tea daily. I can feel it initiate chemistry adjustment for daytime function, and at night I drink a cup of coffee before bed. The chemistry it brings together helps me sleep. Odd? I guess so. The sensation I get is as if a void in my chemistry were being fused, and the resuming energy flow allows me to relax. I avoid sugar in it. At most without any kind of sweetener is best, although sometimes honey enables the relaxation process. I have blood sugar checks every once in a while, and it checks out normal.

This is an odd study. Each cup reduces the risk of diabetes by 7%? So can as my coffee consumption nears infinite, does my diabetes risk near zero?

To follow up on some previous comments: Cockroaches don't touch coffee grounds because coffee, rather caffiene, is a natural toxin used to ward off pests. That is why it is bitter and causes psychotropic effects. Humans, however, deal with the bitterness in order to achieve the effects of stimulation.

And also, "cancer survivor, brain tumor survivor," how about thanking your doctors. They are doing the work to save your life. Medical technology is great.

<< Every cup of coffee was associated with a 7 percent reduction in the risk of diabetes, the researchers said. >>

Just SEVEN percent reduction in the RISK of diabetes?

Might? Might? What value is a might? It either will or it won't make up your mind. What use is a might? Unless it is only an attempt to get you noticed, A might is a useless statement not worthy of printing or giving any credibility. I could say that one day pigs might fly. They are not likely to, but you have to admit it is another might. May I suggest that if you cannot make a definite statement backed up with facts it could be better just to shut up.

The people who have Diabetes live longer than those who don't have it. The only reason is they tend to care more and are more cautious. Those who don' have or don't know they have Diabetes are carefree and tend to be more prone to risk and are susceptible to multiple other disease because the sugary people are more careful and tend to escape from other major disease only because they are a little bit extra cautious....... This is a lengthy subject and I can give you several more examples and personal friends's experience and so on..

Isn't it just that people who drink tea and coffee are less likely to be guzzling sodas all day?

If this study were accurate, why did this result not get reported from the nearly 150,000 particpant ongoing nurses study that has found so many other linkages. In fact in 1996 a research study with over 85,000 US nurses published in JAMA concluded that coffee has no effect on heart attack risk in women. If it lowers the Type II diabetes risk it should also lower the heart attack risk, since the two risks are well linked.

The very first error US News and World Report made in publishing this study is not specifying how the study was funded. A number of researchers make a living doing research to support whatever conclusion an industry might want, and rarely are the results of failed attempts well published, as that might discourage future industry funding.

All conclusions about what food is healthy for a given condition must be supported by large population studies and fit some consistent, not random, model. I am over 60 and have heard contradictory studies about foods my entire life. The best food choices for most people is a large variety of food so no one food disproportionately can harm you. After all even too much water (without electrolytes) or salt can kill you, even though you are dead without enough of each..

So, another new study turns previous science on its ear. I switched to decaf iced tea (that I drink a lot of daily) about two years ago because of the new studies, at that time, that coffee and tea cause a hike in the blood glucose levels of diabetics. Ah, but that is the difference. This study says coffee and tea will help you from getting diabetes type 2, not lower your blood sugar. So, if you don't get diabetes, how do they know it was because of drinking coffee or tea? It could be simply good genes.
