The study didn't take into account genetics and people who are predisposed to heart disease and cancer such as people with different blood types. I often eat red meat everyday although I also have 4-6 servings of fruits and vegetables with it and if you study soluble fiber, you'll find that it lowers your LDL or Low density lipid protein so that a concern about eating saturated fats is not a concern for me as I'm blood type O.

Increased meat consumption can force overabsorption of heme iron. Iron overload leads to oxidative stress and damage to the organs necessary to sustain life. Type 2 diabetes, atherosclerosis, liver diseases/cirrhosis, early onset Alzeihmer's disease are all common results of too much iron. These conditions are most common when chlosterol levels are out of range and the body's natural antioxidant defenses are weakened or exhausted.
Regular blood donation can significantly reduce iron overload and decrease the risks of early mortality. If individuals enjoy eating meat, they should consider regular blood donation and frequently having their serum ferritin levels checked (requires a blood test). If they can maintain their ferritin below 60ng/dl, they will not become iron overloaded and should enjoy a healthy old age.

Try these quotes from the article.
"The authors also noted a 24 percent higher risk of dying from heart problems among men who had never smoked and who ate more white meat. Women faced a 20 percent higher risk."
"Meat contains many carcinogens as well as saturated fat, which might explain the increased mortality risk, the authors stated. "
