I smoked for 40 yrs & took meds for epilepsy. Now meds for Depression.

The good effect of meds is over-balanced by the negative side effects .

The cigs I eliminated by first acknowledging I was a nicotene addict & wanted to lower the daily amount of nicotene before I went cold turkey because I wanted to work.

Each month I lowered the no. of cigs I was smoking by 2. I first went from 20 @ da to 18 a day for that month , then 16 the next & 14 and so on. When at 8 one can pause & go 1 less per mo., then when at 4 or 5 & you really want to, go Cold turkey from the 4. The nicotene in 4 is less than 20 & easier to deal with. During this, drink water, never pop or have sugar items, keep produce handy to munch on. Think of the thousands you will save!

I still don't know the 6 signs of caffine addiction, even though I know for a fact that I am addicted to coffee. All that I learned is the 6 systems of withdrawal.

I take a lot of medicine for depression and psychosis. These drugs cause fatigue and lethergy. If I don't have my "upper" of caffeine, I can't make it through the day. Typical day is at least four cups of coffee. But, *sheepishly*, I am addicted!

By the time I arrive at the office each morning (before 7a.m.) I have already gone through a 12-cup put at home. During the summer I drink iced coffee. However, I don't dilute the coffee with ice cubes, I fill one ice tray with coffee to make coffee cubes. Anything less than a 12-cup pot in a 24-hour period and the caffeine withdrawal headaches begin.

YUP, I had a red face: 'rosacia' from the effects of caffeine. Doctor recommended reducing my intake gradually. That worked. I rarely drink caffeinated sodas but have at least a couple cups of cafe' daily. Not enough to cause the rosacia. Another effect is sensitivity to cold air resulting in headaches even while drinking my usual coffee schedule.

I know for sure all those signs are right and I experience them again in this weekend coz I did not have a chance to take coffee all day and sure enough at night I had that old headache. The remedy of it for me is - take over the counter pain killer, turn the light off, in a quiet room, try to sleep which will allow me to feel the dizziness and will take the headache away. Then if you are hungry eat light if not then keep on sleeping. Next morning as soon as you wake up grab the strongest cup of coffee and recharge you, you'll be fine.

A doctor told me years ago "The Secret to a Long and Healthy Life":

Moderation in ALL things. (Very difficult for us Americans) Think about it, this applies to anything; eating, sleeping, working out, sex, medications, work, recreation, buying stuff, coffee, the list goes on. I wish you luck in your moderation.
