Have you ever seen that PEOPLE NEVER WASH THEIR REUSABLE BAGS. First they are putting raw meat, cleaners, and raw veggies in the same bag. Then after the germs get on the bag they let them sit at home almost no one you ask ever washed them.

The Cadadian government has even put out and advisory to keep people safe from reusable bag cross contamination.

Please use a sterile plastic bag (recycle when done), and seperate raw meats and vegetables to help reduce cross contamination and illness.

Stronger rules and more enforcement authority for the FDA are fine, but meaningless unless they're accompanied by significant budget increases. Currently the FDA budget is under $2 billion a year. The budget of the USDA Food Safety & Inspection Service (FSIS), the only other Federal agency monitoring food safety, is just over $1 billion. Proportionately speaking, if you're making $45,000 a year and paying $5,000 a year in Federal Income Tax, only about five dollars a year of that goes toward making sure your food is safe to eat, making sure your pet's food is safe, making sure livestock feed is safe, making sure that medicines and medical treatments are safe and effective. Five lousy dollars out of five grand. Isn't all that stuff worth just a little bit more to you?

Obesity & Magic Pill:

I personally recognize that wheat is a far better diet than meat on the ground it normally exits body with ease and rapidity, and we are well aware that our heath depends upon smooth metabolism and blood stream associated with the immune system and how important our daily workout is, as well.

I still think the critical conditions mostly come from breach of our immune system, and the food that stays long in the body is more likely to become a source where germs, bacterias, viruses and the like multiply.

Sounds outlandish, but wheat might be a principal "clean and healthy" food that has led western society to the most decent culture of all.

Disadvantages of meat consumption :

1. The food that stays long in the body looks more likely to become a source where germs, bacterias and the like multiply, which even gives birth to critical conditions involving prostate cancer.

2. The consumption of meat proved lethal as earlier this year, the expansive, long-term release concluded about a third of more than 500,000 Americans aged 50-70 with this behavior tends to wind up with premature fatality caused by cancer, hypertension and more.

3. The in-take of pork raises risks of catching swine flue and its mutation, costing around the initially estimated $2trillion dollars word-wide and endangering recovery,

(( Genes included in the new swine flu have been circulating undetected in pigs for at least a decade, according to researchers who have sequenced the genomes of more than 50 samples of the virus. The findings suggest that in the future, pig populations will need to be monitored more closely for emerging influenza viruses, reported a team led by Rebecca Garten of the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in a report released by the journal Science.))

Still, media downplay this fact out of small thinking to protect meat industry.

4. All but media influenced by meat industry blame calorie for overweight or obesity rather than fat, I still think Fat equals Fat by definition and common sense.

5. Hot dogs are often associated with food-borne illness. Though other food items carry listeria , FDA (Food and Drug Administration) studies have shown a high level of the harmful bacteria on hot dogs, processed meat and ready-to-eat meat products. And consuming hot dogs and other processed meats increases the risk of cancer

The class-action consumer fraud lawsuit underway in New Jersey is based on a report from the American Institute for Cancer Research.

Its findings included this fact: Consuming one 50-gram serving of processed meat (about the amount in one hot dog) every day increases the risk of colorectal cancer, on average, by 21 percent.

Nitrites, used to keep hot dogs fresh, are the main culprit, according to the suit.

While nitrites are commonly found in many green vegetables, especially spinach, celery and green lettuce, the consumption of vegetables appears to be effective in reducing the risk of cancer. Because these vegetables also contain Vitamin C and D, which serve to inhibit the formation of carcinogenic compounds, they actually reduce your cancer risk.

6. Two thirds of Americans are overweight or obese, which branch into so many different kinds of diseases, excess body fat increases risk for numerous cancers, costing up to $147 billion a year.

7. America needs to put focus on a sustainable energy industry to become a lead exporter, in place of a fast food business where the overall loss outstrips gain more than known, from my stance.

Provided the average temperature is getting higher, accordingly all forms of germs, bacterias, viruses, and influenza etc are more likely to multiply.

Some skeptics say the warning against hazards of climate change is overstated, but judging from more frequent and widespread outbreaks of e. coli, salmonella, and bird, swine flu cases endangering human lives and economic recovery seriously, some prompt measures need to be taken, I guess.

Also, Breathing toxic chemicals in the outdoor air exposes all Americans to a lifetime cancer risk at least 10 times greater than the level considered acceptable under federal law, shows new data released by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

Thank You !

Nothing good ever comes from the government. Or the FDA. Or U.S. News and World Report. This article is no exception...perhaps if you had done some real investigating into the CAUSE of outbreaks and contaminated food, you would have discovered that industrial factory farming and filthy animal feedlots are primarily responsible for these things. Or maybe you know that and just didn't want to report it.

Modern, health conscious nations with advanced knowledge of microbiology and sanitary practices are the only ones on the planet who develop these food borne illnesses.

Ironically, if we weren't so concerned with safety, our immune systems would be leaps and bounds better than right now. If you don't come into contact with those scary "germs" once in a while, your body will forget how to fight off diseases.

The cleaner we get, the more vulnerable we are. Plus, sushi is far too delicious.

If I read the linked slides correctly, from 1990 there were 13,568 illnesses from lettuce. That works out to approximately 700 cases per year. OR 2 people per day in a country of >300,000,000 people. I'm at grater risk in the kitchen itself than from the food.

I can guarantee that there is no e.Coli or salmonella in the veggies growing in my garden because I don't use night soil as a fertilizer nor do I hire indigents to harvest or process it. Nor do I allow livestock or people to urinate or defecate on it. Where do you suppose all that e.Coli comes from? I do it all myself. In addition to the food remaining wholesome it is far more delicious and nutritious than the produce found in supermarkets which is usually picked green and allowed to ripen en route (oh yeah??? More like decompose than ripen) to your local supermarket. No place to grow??? Think again. I've seen productive gardens growing on balconies. Really no place to grow??? Seek out farmers markets. Most are composed of small farmers who allow their crops to field ripen so you get better tasting produce. Since you can't be 100% sure of anything you don't grow yourself, you'll still need to be careful about your own handling of it. Finally, wash your hands frequently while preparing foods or even just consuming them. The number of folks I have seen leaving a restroom without washing their hands is mind-boggling.And if you grow what you consume yourself you won't have to worry about the government snooping around in your business. One last idea, raise your own chickens and let them be free ranging chickens that can get access to bugs and vegetation over a large area. Free range chickens don't suffer from the disease outbreaks that occur in penned up chickens.

The actions suggested by the FDA for defensive is about 25 years behind my wife. So are suggestions on preparing meat Food network stars break all the rules.

You know the real reason these foods are "dangerous"? Because they are the most produced food stuffs next to wheat in the world. Of course there will be more reported cases, because there is a higher proportion of food to consider. Do news agencies even check their stories anymore? Do editors exist?

This is just a case of fear-mongering. They want you scared so you will be compliant when policy change comes about in health-care and food standards. What ever happened to common-sense? What happened to personal responsibility? Do we have to hold everyone's hand in life? Does it really have to be a nanny-state? I wish and hope that people want to take responsibility in their own life. I few are, and they are voicing their concerns. Most are silent. That worries me...
