Duh! You're not gonna lose by just being veggie. How did she let herself gain 83 pounds before realizing she was doing something wrong. She's not helping the veggie cause.

I'm 59 year old female with M.S.. I have been a vegetarian for 3 years and I am miserable.I don't cook and I live in assisted living where meals are made by a usual kitchen staff. I either don't eat anything they serve or i just pick through what is served; forgoing anything with meat in it.
I don't know what to do. I can't find anything on the menu of the local dining restaurants.Beans, rice, nut, potatoes of varying kinds constipating cheeses and of course, desserts are plentiful.I am thoroughly tired of all these conglomerations no matter how"good" they are for me.The veggie menu part;you know that lonely area kinda not in the main menu area but has 2 or 3 monotonous choices.
I live in a nice size town but it doesn't have any vegetarian restaurants anywhere amongst the plethora of dining establishments here. I hope someone can come up with some suggestions for me. Thank you.

It has been three weeks that I have cut out all meat products from my diet. I have also cut out eggs.
I'm proud of myself, and all you others who have been going for years! :]

I've been a vegetarian for 10 years now. I started because I just didn't like the taste of meat and I hit the age where I could start cooking for myself if I had to. I will point out that as a vegetarian I have to pay close attention to saturated fat. It is possible to be a vegetarian and suffer from high cholesterol. By eating less than 10 grams of saturated fat I was able to safely reduce my LDL level without medication. Although, that does mean that I cannot eat any full fat dairy. I like to go to www.vegetariantimes.com for veggie recipes.

The meat-free diet is definitely gaining popularity, especially since Sir Paul McCartney started his Meat-Free campaign in the UK.
In the US, there are also movements going on to get people excited about going meatless. I work with the Meatless Monday, a nonprofit dedicated to encouraging individuals to cut down meat consumption to improve physical health and reduce their carbon footprint is Meatless Monday. As a project of Johns Hopkins’ Bloomberg School of Public Health, Meatless Monday has a website rich with recipes (like this one for Portobello ‘Pizzas:’ http://www.meatlessmonday.com/portobello-pizzas/), cooking tips, and nutrition information. And for more on the history and science behind the campaign, check out the Youtube video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bpnKeYmR1NM
