Bill Clinton is on a Vegan Diet and doing very well!
There is absolutley nothing wrong with a plant based diet and eating Salmon 2-3 times a week, and eating plenty of good veggies, salads and legumes!
Gluten Free should be for everyone because the Wheat nowadays is Poison. The wheat has been genetically modified, it stimulates your appetite so people who eat wheat products of any kind are consuming on average 475 calories more per day X 365 days a year. The big fat bellies we see out there are "Wheat Bellies".Definatley cut out Sugar, especially refined white sugar, high fructose corn syrup, artificial sweetners, etc. Our bodies cannot absorb these things so our bodies STORE these things.
Drink lots of pure clean unadulterated WATER. The American Diet is making everyone FAT & SICK! It has been an absolute CASH COW for Pharmacueticals! Next time your at the doctor, he is more interested in writting you a script for life rather than "you are what you eat". Medical Schools, The FDA and all things to do with the Western Medical System are run by the Big Pharmacuetical Companies.
The information is out there, You do not need to take Statin Drugs and if you can control what you put inside of you, the diabetes type II will disappear. I know because people are doing it and their pockets are full of money that is not going to the Pockets and Obscene Profits of Big Pharma!!!!!!
Good Luck everybody...you really need to give a whole foods diet a chance or atleast try a Paleo Diet that allows you to still eat meat, as long as the meat isn't full of synthetic hormones, antibiotics and whatever else the food manufacturers are putting in it to preserve it!

I want to become flexitarian. I've only done this for a couple days. How can I get enough nutrients as a growing kid?

Is it still healthy for a vegetarian to drink (about 2 cups a day) hot tea?

I am 11 and have been a vegiterian for 2 weeks. I wanted to be one because the way animals are treated is awful. I make sure I eat plently of vegtables, Fruits, Salads, Nuts and dairy. I have no junk food. And I also Have a gluten allergy so I cant have any wheat, grain, bread, crakers or pizza the rest doesnt hurt my stomach. I am also thankful my family supports me and helps me make healthy balanced meals. Im also am VERY active. Good Luck :).

I'm a vegetarian and I'm Indian so I get a lot of protein in Indian food but I also eat a lot of beans and some nuts. But remember, even if you're not a vegetarian you can still eat healthy and eat fatty food but in moderation- like cake or cookies or ice cream or pie

2 things.
1) You said don't take supplements. . . but didn't say why not? I take a multi-vitamin and an Omega-3 pill every morning (yes, I am a vegetarian) Should I stop taking them if not recommended by a doctor?
2) You said that becoming a vegetarian should not be done "cold turkey". That's sort of silly in one way - some people choose to be a "veg" because of the animal abuse/killing....if you stop eating meat because of that reason - cold turkey IS the best route!! The sooner the Better!!

I have been an ovo-lacto vegetarian for 6 years. When friends asked 'Don't you get tired of eating only vegetables?' I'd quip 'the meat aisle is the only aisle I don't go down. While that is a blanket response, it does point to menus including many non-meat foods.
I quit eating meat for two reasons. Commercially raised beef, pork and poultry is practiced to maximize quantity, not quality. Animals being treated inhumanly has been widely reported.
My second reason goes hand in hand with such questionable practices. Recalls of tainted meat ruined my appetite. If I were to add animal products to my diet again it would be from local ranchers whose animals are pastured and free range.
I am aware of tainted vegetable recalls. I have a garden which augments my trips to the market. Plant foods can't suffer.

I'm 13, and after watching the movie "food inc", became a vegatarian. I have relazised how nasty un-organic meat is. My mom yelled at me saying how fat i would get, and shoved meat into my weeping mouth. I spanked it away, and shoved a boston-creme donut in my mouth instead. I have gained 30 pounds since then, and now im deeply ashamed of myself.
