Can Red Meat Have a Place in a Healthy Diet?

MYSTERY

There is now a lot of data that shows eating no meat -- or only a little -- is good for you. But meat, fish, and eggs taste so good (compared to eating only veggies)! So, unless you already have vasculatory disease, eating a little meat, fish and eggs is OK.

Two landmark studies that show this, of course, are The China Study, by T. Colin Powell, which the NYTimes called "the Grand Prix of epidemiology" and the one by Dr. Caldwell Essylstein.

So how come nutrionists and others who should know better say that eating lots of meat is healthy? The same reason, I guess, 60% of all Americans still don't believe in evolution.

Mystery of mysteries...

Amazing, how most animal eating people insist that is it "needed" in your diet to be healthy, and to obtain certain nutrients. I have been a vegetarian (nearly vegan) for over five years now. Before doing so, I was anemic for as long as I can remember, never being able to donate blood because of it. One year after completely giving up all animal and fish of any kind, I, for the first time was not anemic, and able to donate. I do not drink milk anymore either. Funny, how your constantly brain washed that you need red meat and milk to be healthy. I beg to differ! I just had my bloodwork done last week and was very pleased......my fasting total cholesterol was 192, my glucose was 88, my hemoglobin was 12.9. My blood pressure was 115/67. I take no medicine, except for vitamins......not to bad for a woman who will be 50 in two months? So in my eyes, it's a crock, that you "need" to eat (and torture) even a small amount of animal to be healthy :-) One last thing, if you still aren't willing to give up animal (like my husband) at least pay alittle more, and purchase free range, vegetarian fed, no hormornes or antibiotics added to your meat........for your own health ;-D

I only rarely ate red meat for years, until my doctor told me my bodily functions (such as hair growth) were shutting down from lack of iron, and I needed to eat red meat to correct it...

WOW what the heck, the body does need small amounts of cholesterol and fat. Your one of those peta people who trick people "dont drink milk since reduced fat milk has 120 calories!" umm hello PETA you forget to mention fat free milk on purpose. A little meat is good for you, you need protien in your diets and it is a tastey source of protien. I swear some of you Peta people thinking eating a egg is worse than a human abortion.

Your argument is ridiculous

thats like saying too much vitamins is bad for you, so your saying that if you eat a little vitamins your just eating less of a bad thing and its good for you.

honestly any kid about a month old can realize what you wrote is ridiculous.

ANIMALS EAT OTHER ANIMALS, TELLING HUMANS THEY CANT EAT ANIMALS IS STUPID, ITS HYPOCRITICAL SINCE ANIMALS DO IT.

jeezlaweese.

It’s surprising that the people who support eating any amount of meat admit that there is a risk of health problems due to cholesterol and fat content, and yet, eating meat is still seen as a necessary and healthy habit. That is, as long as it’s eaten in proper portions. That doesn’t sound healthier. It sounds like instead of feeding yourself a lot of bad ‘stuff’ in a short amount of time (large amounts of meat), you’re just feeding yourself a little bit of bad ‘stuff’ (proper portions). Even though the leaner meats may be healthier, they are still providing the body with unnecessary cholesterol and fat. It’s curious to ask if humans are physiologically meant to function most successfully on a plant-based diet, and if eating meat is (or ‘was’ considering human ancestors) just an adaptive behavior during times when their natural food source was scarce.
