i think if most women stopeating fat foods and eat right, then they will be all right. you can die by getting over weight.

The latest study found that women who gained the most also gained it early. Their weight increased soon after starting the shots—an increase of 5 percent over their starting body weight within the first six months. Women who don't gain significant amounts of weight within their first six months on Depo probably don't need to worry about longer-term weight increases as a result of the contraceptive, Kotz writes. Those who do gain more than a couple of pounds would be better off switching to a different form of contraception.

So the obese are spending that extra health-care money on... diet drugs that don't work. Let's take it one step further and admit that DIETS don't work. Dieting is an industry, and industries equal MONEY. The diet industry, like the health-care industry (read: the pharmaceutical industry), really doesn't want to cure people: if it did, the MONEY WOULD DRY UP. So yes, mind the sugar, get off the couch occasionally, and keep in mind that if you really, REALLY want to mess up your health by stressing your body, obesity won't do it, but yo-yo dieting certainly will.

Once again we wade into the murkey waters of self-serving public research. Has the study taken into account the medical savings generated by the decreased life expectancy?? As one remembers, the savings generated by decreased expectancy of cigarette smokers wiped out the added cost of treatment before death.

If your story is true, then this film that inspires people on their power to reverse obesity and diabetes could be the most economically useful in documentary history:

Thank you for your consideration to include it in a story.

I have yet to read something about the ridiculously high sugar content of pre-packaged drinks and foods. All we hear is "get more exercise", "control your portions", "cut junk and fast food" and "cut the fat". That's all very good, but has anyone bothered to compare, like I did, the sugar content of a Danone fat free yogurt made in the USA, to the exact same yogurt made in France? The USA one has 12gr of sugar, versus 2 gr in the French one. Why is that? Does anyone wonder why the food industry in the US loads so much sugar in our foods? The yogurt is not the only example. Look at the content of sugar in everything from mustard to ketchup to soups and cereals. It drives me mad, increases my sweet tooth, and makes me want to eat more and more. Oh but the food industry will make sure that no one ever mentions the word "sugar". It's sickening.

In case the health care reform provides the general public with peace of mind, the rising mental stress or illness caused by financial instability may bend the curve surprisingly,

in combination with kicking out the 'keep eating habit' to forget the deep-seated instability and apprehension, I guess.

'Work or Break' health system with no brake or safety system might be one of the biggest hidden causes of mental stress, obesity or overweight threatening the overall economy, I cautiously suppose.

I so agree with this report and can attest to it personally. Several years ago I was over 250lbs and struggling with asthma and a host of problems. A friend of mine had lost a large amount of weight altering her daily lifestyle. She and my health problems motivated me. I am currently 190lbs and am in excellent health due to weight loss. I have been religious about a 5 day a week gym routine that includes weight and aerobics. My eating habits are altered to suppirt a heaslthy lifestyle. Weight is a major cause of so many ailments.
