Soy can present problems for some people-and I am one of them. It is a known goitregen- ie it can slow thyroid function and contains phytoestrogens- substances which mimic the action of female hormones, like for example storing fat.It is also one of the top ten known allergens which can trigger inflammatory responses from the immune system. We already get enough soy protein in the American diet without consciously adding it. It is present in some form in almost all processed food.An interesting correlation-since the mid 90's the average consumption of soy has increased by about 500% and this coincides with the escalation of the "obesity epidemic" in the US.

I hate a headline that says "What to Eat to Feel Happier" and then you have to ferret it out . . . apparently this is a book review . . . but not well labeled.
