Thinning Bones? How to Tell if You Need an Osteoporosis Medication

I'm nearly 81 with "mild" osteopenia. It is borderline, quite near normal on the chart. My doctor wanted to put me on Fosamax. I refused, and he has me on Rx Vitamin D2 50,000 i.u. weekly, as well as calcitonin-salmon nasal spray. Something is making me feel ill. Could it be either of these?

I was surprised to find out last year that the two diabetes drugs I had been taking for the past several years had been leaching the calcium from my bones and I had severe osteopenia (at age 64). The two drugs are Avandia and Actos. I am now on the Fosamax generic and taking extra Vitamin A to combat this. I can really tell the difference. No more back pains!
