Knee exercise is vital if you are suffering from the painful condition of arthritis in the knee joints. The right kind of exercise can help to maintain or possibly even increase your range of motion, which helps to prevent the knee from causing sudden acute pain or giving way. Exercise helps to maintain healthy cartilage. It is also important to build strength in the muscles and tendons that support the knee, so that you avoid putting unnecessary stress on the joint itself when you walk, climb stairs etc.Choose a chair the right height so that you can sit on it with your feet flat on the floor and thighs horizontal. Consciously tighten the muscles in the right thigh (it can be helpful to put your hand on your thigh at first to feel the muscles tighten). You should see your kneecap move a little. Then push out with your heel, point your toes and move your toes around in a slow circle. Continue for up to 30 seconds, then repeat with the other leg.

My knees swell from time to time, aut not severly. Last week, I had bladder surgery, and the second day awoke with knees the size of a soccer ball. I could not bend them..I was told it was because of the 3 1/2 hour gyn position, I was in during surgery. Could that be the reason? Could the calf massage wraps have contriuted to blood not getting to the knee joints?

I am 74 years old, but walk every morning (1 1/2 to 2 miles and work out on some machines at a local health club. I don't want knee surgery.

thanks.

I find this very interesting. I have long been an advocate of economical-weighted shoes for people with arthritis knee pain. They build the thigh muscles along with taking pressure off the knee, hip and back. When you exercise by walking 30 to 60 min a day, use of Cetyl Myristoleate, I have seen major improvements in arthritis symptoms. I add my vote of confidence to what this article is saying.

Daniel Reid, "The Tao Of Health, Sex & Longevity" (1989) pages 99 to 104, 'Therapeutic Foods and Juices', Publisher Simon & Schuster, offers an excellent and simpler alternative.

Why put the elderly through contortions, when they are in pain ?

The researchers at the University Of Iowa can help by checking out D Reid's comments.

I FIGURED THIS ONE OUT FOR MY SELF. MY YOUNGER SISTER HAD TO HAVE KNEE REPLACEMENT LAST FALL, I STAYED AND TOOK CARE OF HER AND HELPED WITH HER REHAB. I NOTICED MY KNEES WERE HURTING AND THIS WORRIED ME. SO IN MARCH WHEN I RETURNED HOME I JOINED A GYM AND STARTED WALKING ON THE TREADMILL AND DOING WEIGHTS FOR MY LEGS AND THIGHS AND THE REST OF MY BODY. NO MORE PAIN.
