not completely true. I didn't notice significant weight gain till after a year and then even changing diet and exercising more doesn't help to take it off. I am not losing the amount of weight I should with the effort being put in. I think more studies should be conducted on this contraceptive and more women should be informed. my dr never told me anything about gaining weight

I starting getting the depo shot in February 2010 I believe and at that time I weighed 130.I had my baby girl and after that I tried different bc pills which weren't working and it was like my period would not stop so I had some relatives suggest that I try the depo shot "big mistake."I have gained almost 50 lbs since then which I've lost three so I'm 171 now.I will never get the shot again yes I loved not having a period but it's not worth the weight gain and the other side effects.I'm going next wk to see a Dr. and be put on some other kind of bc and also see about getting diet pills.I am considered obese for my height I'm 5'3.All this weight gain has caused me to be extremely depressed and withdrawn.I do diet and exercise and I'm considering liposuction.Hopefully I'll get back down to my old size again. My advice to anyone who notices that they gain weight on the depo get off.

How can I loose weight or keep weight off while on the depo shot?

Chelsea Schloesser of CA 1:01PM December 08, 2011

Not possible for me to stop. I use it to control endo pain and fibroid bleeding. Get a shot every 8 weeks. Gained nearly 50 pounds the first year. Have not been able to lose more than 5 pounds at a time but weight easily comees back. Hunger is greatest the first 2 weeks after my shot.

I'm 15, I've been on depo for 7 months. The first 6 months I was fine. The last shot I got was about a month ago and I have gained 5 lbs already. I was 137lb, now I'm 142lb. I eat very little and I'm always doing something. I think it's my dep and I'm affraid of getting fat. My mom says it's fine that it is just a little and it's important I stay on the shot. I think if I continue to gain weight, despite what she says I'm gonna stop getting the shot.
