Do you have any kids?

OK WTF reallly. MY wife and I have 2 children. One she came with and one I brought.

Our youngest is hers, our oldest is mine from before, that all said I got "clipped" about 3 years before we met, and had figured "I have one, she is beautiful, I don't need to add to the populace." Well, guess what?here we are. "hrmmm, I wonder, if YOUR son is soo beautiful, and my daughter is SOOOO beautiful, then I wonder what OUR baby would look like. I may never get to find out. We are both students, and I like to think we raise our children well, and I don't think one more would be too big a burden. However, the cost of V-Sect reversal is around $5000 flat. I simply don't have it. Now onto Organ donations.

If there was a system in place that would allow me to donate MY kidney for say $25,000 then I feel that would make the pain of having to get cut open and everything worth donating. (Sorry if I seem insensitive.) I think this country needs to set up something like that up in this economy.

Shouldn't a married couple get a chance? of OR 12:31PM July 29, 2009

I truly sympathize with the plight of the infertile, but I'm a little concerned about the tendency toward the commodification of children. "Landing a trophy spouse" used to be an unspoken goal in society, and it contributed to the cheapening of marriage. Pursuing parenthood at any cost, incentivizing egg and sperm donation, lending credence to the idea that everyone is entitled to a child - I don't know. Something doesn't seem right to me about this whole area. Granted, I've not looked into the issue, but still, something doesn't sit well.

I agree with Amy's comment above. As an attorney in the field of ART, as well as an agency owner, I understand completely the need for ethical guidelines in this industry. I think that the Donor Network Alliance is a good start, which is why Conceptual Options has joined.

If you are considering Egg or Sperm Donation, Surrogacy or Embryo Donation, research is KEY! There are so many facets to the Third Party Family Building journey that it's imperative that those seeking to be donors or surrogates do their research as well as Intended Parents looking for the services offered from women advertising themselves as "good candidates". You can find information regarding these issues and more, including medical and legal concerns world wide, on Infertility Answers, Inc. http://infertilityanswers.org/ This easy to navigate site is perfect for those just starting to understand the complexities of Third Party Family Building.

Wishing you all the best!

As an infertility professional and an attorney with experience in this field, I am very much looking forward to joining the Donor Network Alliance. I am delighted by representations made the DNA principals that only those egg donation agencies who are FULLY compliant with all ethical guidelines as established by the American Society of Reproductive Medicine will be allowed to participate. How wonderful for consumers that they can access the collective databases of those practices where donors are not compensated at $20,000, $30,0000 and above. I am very much behind any effort whereby the ASRM Guidelines are taken seriously and 100% complied with.

Hopefully, efforts such as this will close down those shops who practice outside the guidelines...consumer advocacy at it's best! The first question any consumer should be asking is: "Are your agency practices FULLY compliant with that which the American Society of Reproductive Medicine has set as both ethical and appropriate."
