Nice post, thanks for writing!

After reading through all these comments, I would first and foremost like to laugh at some of the uneducated responses. As previously mentioned, the birth control pill, as well as the morning after pill, do not make the body think its pregnant. The pills release artificial estrogen and progestin into the body; estrogen and progestin are hormones that are naturally made by the body in various stages of ovulation. Because the pills supply a straight amount of estrogen and progestin to our bodies, our bodies stop making the hormones. Because the pill supplies the body with a flat amount of hormones, there are no hormone fluctuations, meaning the body doesn't release an egg from the ovaries. The pill also thins the lining of the uterus so, in the event of a released egg, the egg cannot attach to the uterus should sperm manage to get through the thickened mucus (another thing the pill does is thicken the mucus around the cervix).

So, the pill, when taken religiously, thickens the mucus at the cervix to keep sperm from swimming through, thins the uterus to prevent implantation of a fertilized egg (should the sperm get through and the ovaries release an egg), and is supposed to prevent the ovaries from releasing an egg. The morning after pill does the same thing. The morning after pill thins the uterus, thickens the mucus at the cervix, and prevents an egg from being released. This is, by no means, and abortion. Preventing sperm from meeting an egg is not an abortion. Preventing an egg from leaving the ovaries to join with a sperm is not abortion. Keeping a fertilized egg from implanting in the uterus is not an abortion. Even without the pill, sometimes a fertilized egg does not implant.

As for making Plan B available to women and girls of all ages, go for it. Do I believe a 12 year old should be having sex? Hell no. However, if a minor is going to make an adult decision, than the minor should have the same options as an adult. Making Plan B available to women and girls also allows women and girls who have been raped to feel a little more secure. That anyone believes that making it universally available is sending a message that says "Okay! Don't worry about it! You can have sex whenever you want!" Is ignorant and sheds light on your parenting style. If you're a good parent, then you take on the responsibility of building a strong, open relationship with your child where your child can come to you for advice on anything and everything. Being a parent means educating your children about life, and that includes educating them about sex and the methods one can use to prevent pregnancy when having sex. An individual below the age of 17 who wishes to make the decision to have sex, will be smart about it, if you, as a parent, did your job correctly. You will not see an increase of drug abuse if you did your job as a parent.

And, to the 19 year old, not all girls are responsible, that could be a 13 year old kid purchasing this. Possibly not even using this for its use. Possibly selling it to girls at school. America already has a drug problem, this will also only make this WORSE.

okay, so i am having to write a persuasive writing about something, and i chose this topic. This is not exceptable. Have you thought that a prostitute could be using this? Do you BELIEVE in abortions? Because, thats all this is. Killing the baby. Is that exceptable to you? Killing a child that could have made a difference in the world? Not even giving them a chance to show you anything. Giving that prostitute, a chance at killing something. To me, this is a crime, 100% CRIME!

I am 19 years old and I personally feel that teenage girls, all ages SHOULD be allowed to purchase plan B over the counter with no hassle. A teenage girl is a young adult, and should she choose to take part in adult activities, she should be allowed the right to correct or prevent her mistakes on her own.
