I got the depo shot for the first time and I felt like I got pudgier a month in. I got the shot 3 months ago and I feel like I have gained weight. I am a small person and I went up a pants size for the first time since forever. I kinda wish I would have just stayed on the pill instead of being lazy and getting the shot.

Hello everyone :) It saddens me to read these stories. It makes Depo look really awful. But I also hate that you had to deal with all of theses side effects. I got on Depo January 27, 2012. Today is May 6, 2012. When I received the shot they weighed me and I was 118 lbs. So far the the weight has just been going down. I am currently around 109 pounds. However, I am constantly hungry. I worry that I will start gaining weight from an increased appetite, slower metabolism, or tolerance to insulin like some have suggested could be linked to the shot. Other than being hungry, I have bleed for over 20 days straight. Not heavy, just enough to need a pad or liner. Ocassionally I get low cramps, and I feel tired more often. If anyone has any knowledge on WHY it causes such weight gain, please email me or some other means of communication. Thank you, and good luck to you all!

Hello everyone! I just got my first Depo-Provera shot today, I am a 24 yr. old white female, I am 5'2 and 134lbs. I'm not overweight, but i'm not tiny, I'm about average size. I'm going to monitor my weight gain, keeping in mind that I exercise 4-6 times a week and eat a health conscious diet. I do drink socially (1-2 times every other weekend) and socially smoke (I do not smoke on a daily basis). If anyone is interested in my results, I'll be very happy to share. I figure that anything in these cases can help someone make an educated decision, whether it be based on 1 persons results or based on a study with numerous women.

I'm 19 and quite petite. When I left home for college I weighed just a little over 90 lbs. I'm not sure how much I weigh now but my belly now sticks out over my pants top about an inch or so :( besides that, I really love the shot. I believe that it increases fat storage as well as an increase in appatite. I'm deffineately eating more than I used to but not enough to have gained this much in just two months after taking the shot.

Ive had one shot. Its a nightmare. I took it Bc its one less pill and I'm not sticking a ring up in my nether region. I work out a lot. Hiking carrying my toddlers for miles Bc they get tired. I was losing weight and getting in the best shape. My periods were nightmares. I thought of suicide. It really was that bad with the cysts, feeling like my life was being sucked out of me and the pain was intense. Nothing helped apart from pain killers I had saved from my csections. I ran out of pills(not a pill popper) so I wanted to try anything. I tolerate pain as far as I can but I have a house to run. Depo was the worse ever. Depression hit, migranes hit..ive gained weight. I could tell by the 2nd week I was munching so I bought apples, Greek yogurt etc. I exercise, cycle, hike and nothing. Counting calories, drinking a gallon of water daily nothing. I'm gaining. It took so long for me to finally lose 50lbs and its coming back.mega upset but wont give up exercising. I wont return for another shot. I rather go to a pain clinic, leer for a week and sleep for 3 days then relive being depressed etc. I'm not lazy. I keep trying so no negative feedback. Good luck ladies. Its unnatural anyways. That's what I get I guess. Shame on the docs and whoever made this crap. I feel pregnant and pissed. Got it in Feb 2012 its nearly may. Bled for 4 weeks. No period since. Hang tough. Those saying get over it. That is not helpful. People come here for answers. We don't appreciate that crape. If I researched this before going to the docs, no way would I have bothered. Sex drive is fine. Just the weight gain and mood swings.

I took Depo and I now have high blood pressure and am a weight of 256. I was a healthy young woman and did not eat excessively. It has ruined my self confidence, my once much slimmer figure and my overall health. I have tried to exercise to lose the weight, drinking large volumes of water, nothing seems to work.

I got on depo-provera two years ago when I was 16. I weighed anywhere between 120-128 pounds. I exercise, eat healthy, & keep track of my calories. I now weigh 165 pounds. Yes, I know, It's crazy! I don't recommended the shot to anyone. You WILL gain weight!
