I'm 46, have a 19 year old son and a 22 year old daughter. My husband of 2 years wanted never to make a mistake, married only once and desperately wants a baby. Am I considered irresponsibly wanting to get pregnant at my age?

Ok, so both Sara Palin and her daughter should have been using birth control at "their" age. Where is Mom Sara's judgement and common sense? Or is that something we don't talk about and believe in? We know birth control does fail, but come on! Lets get with the times and be responsible, aware adults. A little too out of touch for me. She needs to devote her time and emotions to raising her baby not running the country. And being a grandma is many times a job in itself, especially when the Mommy is so young and inexperienced.

My 18 year old was born when I was 40. She has been a joy to our family and a blessing for all of us. Next week, she will be in the queen's court for homecoming. What we all would have missed had she not been born. Our youngest was born when I was 45 and is a Downs child. She is a joy as well, though not without challenges. Do you remember the quote, "Before I formed you in your mother's womb, I knew you?" God is large and He is in charge. I wouldn't want it any other way. I know not everyone will agree with me, but I had to speak in defense of God's precious gifts to "older" moms.

No, my dear, EVERYTHING is political in this season.

Did I miss read the article? Was the focus of the article about increased risk of birth defects and maternial risk? Not ever article is about the presidential race. I am a very functional 37 year old female born to a 42 year old mother in 1971. So let's just keep things in perspective.

Liz, you're a nursing student and you favor the McCain/Palin approach to health care financing? Do you not have any exposure in nursing school to real nurses who are leaving the field daily because of the tragedies and outrages they experience at the hands of private insuance and a "for-profit" culture of healthcare?

"THIS is why most of us question the judgment of Sarah Pslin"? Who is most of us? I am a 40 y.o. nursing student, married, mother of 2 wonderful boys and plan/hope to time the birth of my third child after I graduate in May 2009. Of all the women from different backgrounds I have discussed Sarah Palin with (other students, faculty, nurses, neighbors, & family) I would say close to 80% respect her and think that she would be a wonderful VP. We discuss real issues such as energy, less government, and socialized/national healthcare; not her judgement on something as personal as thier family planning decisions or whether or not she is nearing menopause. Please don't vote if you are basing your decision on sex or race; please know your issues and not just what is spoon fed to you on the nightly news...research!

Why are some people so outraged that a sensible woman and man decided to have another baby in their 40's? My mother-in-law had eight children, the last in her 40's, and every one of them became decent, talented, and functioning citizens with good families. Lighten up! The world is full of all kinds of interesting people with different views! Regarding the woman giving birth to triplets at age 59, I applaud her and hope that she is healthy enough to live until the triplets are grown. And,these babies were obviously dearly wanted. The mother will be in her mid 70's when they are grown-I'm 76 years old and helping my divorced daughter raise the last of her four children.Lee

She had a baby at 44. People have been doing that for years. No big news there. Yes. She could have used MORE THAN ONE FORM of birth control to prevent pregnancy. I seriously doubt that 2-3 types are all going to fail at the same time. If so, name that kid Houdini and get on with your life.

I am 38 and pregnant with twins. I know already that when I give birth at 39 early next year, we will be done with babies. Hubby already has an appointment to have the fellas snipped and bottled. If necessary, I will get snipped too. There is some personal responsibility involved here.

My cousin had a Down's baby when she was 19 years old. Age is not the only factor. That child is in her 20's now. Having a Down's baby does not make you better Vice Prez or Prez material in my opinion. I would love for this scandal with the firing in Alaska be resolved BEFORE the election this November though.
