Love is one major causative agent to why people lie. It is the reason I will tell a woman all is ok regardless whether it is my mother,sister,girlfriend an any woman or a brother just because I love them. What is more !no one wants to hang around people who say naked(read nasty) truth about them. First of all most people believe in themselves and therefore constantly lying to themselves about their abilities hence any comment incosistent with their belief is outrightly unwelcome unless it is uplifting. Neccessarily people don't comment postively of people they hate and thus love is the culprit to lying. We have other culprits like fear,lust,thrill though it still boils down to self exultation-loving one self

"We are all Human and we all sin" (Gloria Dalia May 20-09)- This statements never fails to scare me. Even though it points to the two origins of lying (species and religion), it sells the human race short and undermines all religions. While I type my view on lying, there is a spacesiph traveling through space towards the moon to find out if the moon contains water. Of course this is very complex mission - what if one of the technicians in this mission lied? - his research is flawed, his data is incorrect, his credentials are false therefore his know how is substandard, what if more then one person lied!? - Will this contribute to the extinction of the human race once we spent this planet? Hopefully, the mission will succeed and confirm that no one lied, everyone involved was the best at hand and their valuable contribution reconfirms why we are at the top of the food chain. Imagine the impact if we applied the same qualities to the improvement of the human race like "Not Lying", instead of only wanting to survive at any cost, including lying. As for religion, I happen to respect thebelief and faith of anyone I meet and know. But I be lying if I did not admit that it baffls me how so much truth in religious scriptures and literature make the human race lie so much and so often?- will this contribute to the extinction of the human spirit? - if you think so, I then suppose we dont need to know if the moon contains water or not, agree?

I think sometimes lying is absolutely less painful to all those involved than telling the truth would be. The truth does not always set you free. The truth sometimes kills people. Lying is a matter of choice and a sin that must be worked out primarily between you and God. It is your personal choice and act of discretion. You will be the one to suffer the most from your choice of lying or truth.

I cannot believe most people lie every ten minutes. How could someone even prove that? That is absurd. I might believe most people lie once or twice a day. And then, is it a lie or is it just a fleeting opinion they have at that moment? I see a purpose for "white lies" because being too honest on opinions to others can lead to alot of losses of friends. People are basically sensitive.
I also see lying as coming on a plateau form. There is the white lie of telling someone their dress or hair looks good when it may not (but are you lying to protect them or hurt them? If they are going for an interview they may need to know that outfit does not look good, etc.
I think that the lie most people consider the ultimate lie, adultery, is committed by way more than the high statistics indicate. I think it is the most complex lie there is because over the ages, it is more of a human weakness and compulsion than a mere lie. I think it is between the two people who are in the committed relationship (and any children born from the adultery). I think the desire to brand men or women with the Scarlet letter is very sad as that action can cause more damage than the affair itself. In no way am I saying it is okay to have affairs and I believe wholeheartedly in commitment. I believe in a relationship, the desire to have an affair should be discussed with the spouse as it often indicates underlying relationship problems that could be worked out and the affair possibly avoided. I believe if one does have an affair, the spouse does not necessarily have to be told as it will most likely destroy a relationship that still has great potential and it could harm a family to go through a divorce. Sometimes the affair actually sets the person back on the path to relationship recovery. Let's face it, the majority of people do have them. How honest is it to persecute another when most of society is doing it? I think the honesty before the affair begins is much more important than the lie after the affair (again unless children are born out of the affair).
I have found that people in our society like to punish and point fingers away from themselves rather than accept the truth that we are ALL human and sinners. Let us ALL forgive ourselves and others. There needs to be more compassion in life.

Men, as long as they are not criminals avoiding prosecution, tend to lie in order to keep peace with thier spouse or co-workers. I have observed in my 65 years tha women are liars in order to keep people from knowing thier truely devious personalities. The women I have known that lie about fidelity for instance, are the ones who constantly accuse their partners of such, when it is really the woman that is guilty od such. I have found more women actually commiting such acts than men. In fact I oudl venture to say with my experience anyway, that over 75% od american women have cheated on thier spouse, boy/girl friend, or live-in but only 20% would ever admit it. Men tend ot feel more guilty about such things and women tend to treat such as thier "right" to do so, especially married women. Maybe that is why the Soap Operas have benn so popular with the female portion of our society for the past 60 years. those shows tend to give them the ability to lie even more and with greater conviction than men. Plus the fact that I have fouond women will assist thier female friends in making thier lies about infidelity more believable, whereas men will keep their mouths shut about such things unless they have designs on the woman involved in the relationship.

People lie because they are hiding something or don't want to be judged or talked about.
The truth will set you free.....Lies will catch up with you. If you don't want to tell a lie don't discuss the matter at hand.
Being seen as a liar is a poor character trait and you will lose good relationships. Eventually you will have no self worth. If you are not honest with anyone else, how can you be honest with yourself. In the end you will never truly be happy.

I know that what I said about dosen't at firslt seem to pertain to the article. I also want to say that, this same cahrastice of people also creates something else that I've seen, and the solutions are the same - be aware of your fellow people.
I've also seen a lot of women pass up a lot of opportunities that they didn't see that were "right in front of them", as I watched them complain that they had nothing worth working for; things I could tell they would have loved, if only they understood what was infront of them, if they even saw these options at all. Also, this charastic of females is often what leades to them being unaffectionaly called many profane words. As a fellow female, I can say that, at least for me, it's a lot easier to just be honest with yourself and others, because when I know I am life flows smoothly and nealy all discrepencies in life melt away when you do this. Perhapse at first it will be a hard path, a little "rocky" per-say, but it will lead to a very easy path of life with a lot of options. As the cleshe goes "the grass is always greener on the other side"; you can tell people you're someone your not, in weight, personality, whatever, and you can do all you can to make this appearance you've made for yourself as truse as possible, but if it's not you, you won't be happy. Now, if your working toward a goal, and this is what will motovate you, then best of luck, but maybe finding a way where you don't lie to other people might serve you better... perhapse promising instead of lieing and needing to lose 20 lbs over night? I know it's not as slick, but people will respect you and think very highly of your down to earth appraco to matters that bother you of yourself, and will probably be much more willing to support you as you being honest with them will make them feel respected and they may in turn feel a companionship response - if you feel understanding this is taking advantage of someone if you use it, it is not as long as you respect this concept and don't use it for your own means, afterall this is how all good friendships work and flourish. And this is also an underlying foundtion of society.
