This article is, unfortunately, all too typical of the mainstream press; reflecting the general lack of understanding of even the most basic scientific principles. Since Teflon and similar perfluorinated products are used throughout the world, it is fairly easy to derive an associative relationship between PFOA and just about any malady out there. The key to science is repeatability. If there is any real association between PFOA and cholesterol, design an actual scientific study to show causation, then have others follow the same procedures to repeat the results. It's that simple. Until that's done you have nothing, so any press report at this time is not only premature, it's also downright misleading. Shame on you.
