I've never known an officer to text while driving and GPS is not needed. Its not a joke when peoples lives are at stake because of this ok. It will be enforced just like drunk driving. Say I get pulled over because I was swearving, i' m not drunk but I have a cell phone in plain view. They ask was I on the phone or texting, or even ask to see the phone. If they check those calls and or text and I was doing that, THERE IT IS. They have to have a reason to pull you over and swerving is a reason. What does texting or talking on the phone make you do. They will find a way and I can't wait til they do Mitch. I can see that you are one who does it but know that it is wrong and is dangerous.

Whoever think that texting and driving is okay are just pure idiots and don't care about anyone including themselves. People lives are at risk everyday because of people who are irresponsible. If it is that serious for you to text, pull over. You would cry a river if a drunk driver killed someone you loved, but if you are texting and driving what do you think you are doing; putting someone else in that same situation as your loved one. I despise people who make decisions like this. I am 31 and I don't drive because I am afraid, too busy thinking about whats going on in the cars around me to be focused and that's bad. I am afraid literally. I hate to walk places, I am nervous when my kids walk to school or go places because of text drivers and drunk drivers.

I feel that this should not only be banned but if someone is hurt or killed it should be treated as murder and or attempted murder because everyone knows the consequences of this. If I lost my kids or family due to these irresponsible actions people take on the road I would fight to the end to have them prosecuted as murderers because that is what they are when they know the consequences. In death no one rises, but the person who committed the accident still breaths in a lot of cases. There is no way this should keep riding. I say forget demerit points and all that crap and fines, it's jail time. There are ways to enforce drunk drivers with that breath olizer thing they want to pass, but there is no way to do that for the one's who text besides access their phone records and time of travel. Just know that if you kill someone and know that what you are doing is wrong because it is public everywhere that it is wrong, YOU ARE A MURDERER. Just as bad as the gang members who do drivebys and don't worry about innocent bystanders.

It's not hard to pull of the road if your phone rings, your baby is crying, someone text you, you need to make a call, or you simply want to eat. A few seconds with your eyes off the road can cost not only your life but the lives of others. IF YOU WON'T DO IT OR WOULDN'T DO IT WHILE YOU ARE TAKING YOUR DRIVERS TEST TO GET THAT LICENSE, DON'T DO IT AT ALL. I think we should be able to report people we see talking and texting while they are driving because there is always some kind of proof to follow through.

As a parent with a new teen driver, I often worry about her driving habits. I know she probably has texted while drivign before but I now installed a free software on her iPhone that automatically disables her key pad so she cant send outgoing texts, emails or make phone calls. If someone is contacting her, it sends a message back saying that she is driving and will call you back when she arrives safely at her destination. It conforts me to know she is being safe while driving. www.zoomsafer.com

How are the goin to ban texting while driving unless all phones have a gps type inertia device.Police cant enforce laws like this and shouldnt try to unless the police obey these laws themselves. This is another B.S. law the will never be enforced.

What about people who travel or commute? Say a teenager is on the metro and needs to call for help, but OOPS! ...the train's moving faster than 15 mph??

Try Safety First is in development test phase on a new after market product due out in the next 60 days. Once the vehicle is taken out of PARK, the texting and email functions on the driver's phone are inhibited. Put the vehicle back into PARK and full operations are resumed. They have a version that disables the entire phone also. (911 can always be dialed).
