My son has Type 1. I believe there is a cure but there is too much money at stake. Think about it....Pumps, infusion sets, needles, insulin, testers (blood and keytone), strips (like freakin gold), lancets, injectors. No....just too much money to throw away on a DEPENDANT population. Cancer, not so much ( and by the way survior of parent). It does not provide a revenue stream but a drain. That is why cancer gets more money. Plus the fact most believe Diabetes in a Fat, Sloth disease.

Has anyone read the book "THe China Study"? It is an arguement for veganism, and states there was a study that suggested that type 1 diabetes can be caused by the introduction of cows milk to infants too soon, ie cows milk based formula. I do not remember the specifics of this study, but you can read the book. If this is true, that can be the reason type 1 is on the rise.

I agree 100% with Sue. If you have type 1 diabetes then you know that insulin is your life support. You also know that there is no cure. My son is 13 and was dx'd in 2000 with Type 1 Diabetes. He 'honeymooned' for about 2 1/2 years. But for the last 7 1/2 he is no longer in that phase. His pancreas is DEAD. Dead means DEAD. It can not be brought back to life. Sure, there's pancreatic transplants...but then most likely drugs to help keep the body from rejecting the new pancreas would be a must.

I also agree with Frustrated Type 1 above--unless you personally deal with Diabetes--which means either you have it, or a family member has it, and you SEE it EVERY FREAKIN DAY--don't judge. Don't act like you know it all. Because you don't. Most of the people out in the world who think they know about diabetes--they don't. Most of the people who act like they know about diabetes..don't. There IS a difference between type 1 and type 2--they are very different. There is also gestational diabetes..again...different.

There are many types on the horizon. But to be blunt, plain and simple--type 1 is type 1 and it has NO FREAKIN CURE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hello everyone,

Have anybody read about the artificial pancreas been currently tested in Europe at this moment. For those who have not had a chance to read the results, they are very, very good. For example those individuals that are participating in the trials are able to eat as anybody that does not have diabetes, the glucose results are amazing. It will take four more years. I am a mother of a six year old who has type I diabetes. For a while I believed the cure would never be out because this is a billion dollar industry, at this moment I believe things will change because in Europe the government pays for the healthcare and there is a tremendous interest from the part of the government. Read it, as a mother and scientist I trully believe the "cure" to type I diabetes with the artificial pancreas is withing our reach. We have computer programmers specially bioinformatics scientist who have work in the design of the program. It will prevent any lows by automatically giving glucagon. The only thing I am trully concerned is that the artificial pancreas will be carry inside of the body. I personally would prefer it to be used as a pump. I think the artificial pancreas will be reachable, I am sure alot of people will become billionaires with this, but people with type I diabetes will be able to eat without fear of any complications. Pray and Pray to GOD.

Most of the articles could be irrelevant when the target is only on one side of the society and most of the time of testimonies. The extension can also be done with non internet community because the diabetes is cause of many disease causing heart failure

I have tried to take care of myself over the years sometimes it does not matter how good of care you take of yourself. I have done the best I can do and live.I have been on an insulin-pump for the last 11 years and that has helped but I still have problems everyday from this body taking disease. I wish people in the general public knew more about type 1 they don't even know you can't live without insulin. Everybody seems to want to make it a nice disease to me it is as bad as cancer if we couldn't get to our insulin for some reason we become very sick very fast coma then death, I have been in ketones as sick as i have been I wouldn't want to suffer very long without insulin. We have higher risk for just about everything. Plus we have to put up with people that think it is our fault because the media only talks about type 2.

I had an idiot trainer try to explain to me that getting in shape will help my wife beat her type 1 diabetes. Even after explaining it to him, and giving him a few articles about it to help keep him from embarrassing himself further, he still insisted exercise would beat type 1.

Point being, some people just believe "the diabeetus" is a fat persons illness and can't imagine anything else.

If insulin wasn't a 100$ per month per person per bottle(most people need 2-3 a month) industry, it would have had a cure by now. It is just too darn lucrative to cure.
