Relapse: One Good Reason Kids Shouldn’t Get High on 4/20 Day

I smoked pot heavily from ages 16-19, and would probably have been classified as an 'addict' by unknowing do-gooders such as the author of this article. But when it came down to it, quitting was very easy as I came to be too busy to be stoned all the time.

Since then I have graduated from college, won prestigious fellowships, and started a career in a field of my choosing. My message to anyone reading this is that while it is not without risks, the greatest potential harm of marijuana is due to prohibition rather than any effect innate to the drug itself. So toke away on 4/20, but keep your eye out for the cops ;)

Funny you should mention National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA)

Here is a graph from them showing the dangers of different drugs...

For some reason Pot is less dangerous and less addictive though more pleasant then caffeine(a deadly addictive drug that is in your tea, coffee and soda drinks)...

Almost everything you drink and eat is more dangerous to your health then pot because pretty much everything is more toxic than pot (check out LD50 ratings)

The first drugs kids usually try (the real gateway drugs) are tobacco and alcohol. The thing is they aren't the legal alternative they are the deadly one... all illegal drugs combined(meth + cocaine + hetoin + everything else) kill about 17,000 people per year while tobacco(the most addicting drug in existence) kills about 450,000 people per yer, alcohol kills about 100,000, caffeine kills about 5,000 people a year oh and pot kills about 0...

So seriously please shut the hell up...

I agree addiction is a problem, but get real the problem is not marijuana it's the usage. If marijuana is 100% bad then you must stop ignoring the facts about alcohol, cigarettes and the origin of cocaine.

And yes I was a user. Why is it that it is hard to stop being addicted if you don't have to, but when you really have to it's easy if you make it easy.(MARIJUANA)

As a libertarian who voted twice for Bush and most recently for McCain I am appauled at the misinformation and scare tactics being used to continue to keep marijuana illegalized.

The blatant hypocrisy of droves of mindless morons smoking cigarettes and drowing booze every day in and day out while preaching about the dangers of marijuana are either delluded or simply totally ignorant.

Life Liberty and the Pursuit of Happyness...so long as it doesnt infringe on another's happyness...is the foundation of our nation, and some day in the future the debate between cigarette addicted anti drug proponents and the sane reality that legislating any private morality is wrong will be over and the latter will have won the day.

I understand your point of view. I dno;t share it though. The article is good until you mention the part where you yourself will use a mind altering substance. This is just supporting the fact that most people in society have a very blurred image. This image is portrayed to them throughout their whole life. It's not yor fault but it is your problem.

At best you can get "addicted" to the feeling of being high, but there are no physical withdrawals from "quitting" marijuana. In fact, marijuana sometimes helps the nausea that can accompany the physical withdrawal symptoms from real drugs, like methamphetamine, cocaine, and heroin.
