I do think adolesents shouldn't use marijuana. No one is headstong enough to do so, most of the users these days let the stereotype of the drug overcome them and they acctually do get addicted. They really do become. . .hopeless. And this, coming from a 16 year old drug abuser, I'm not addicted to anything, slightly cigarettes but I am working on that. I've done everything from marijuana to meth ;p

You have to be headstrong. Thats all there is to it.

your never gonna convince a kid to not smoke that one time by saying "theres an increased risk of addiction" or "it is dangerous" because everyone believes they are in the group of the ppl who dont get addicted.

I will keep on blazing in moderation and i will never get addicted!!!

actually i puked the last two times i smoked because the bong tasted bad... thats hardly addiction and has kept me away from the herb for about a week. thats not addiction. so when you look at me, someone coming from a good family that is 99% anti-marijuana (i think my parents toked it up in the hippie era haha), then you can conclude thatpeople with any reasonable mental strength can choose whether it is a bad idea or a neutral idea to smoke. i dont rlly see it as a good idea, but it rlly isnt bad so i do it now and then. and nothing will happen to me, i am too strong for addiction anyways.

Put simply all drugs are bad if used inappropriately . this includes alcohol. what i get out of this article is that it highluights the dangers of "frequency" of using a product during times of physiological and psychological development.

It also highlights the risk of RELAPSE.

I dont see this as any onwards Christian Soldiers. If you see a fear campaign in this you're not reading it correctly. Its providing a real case of how dangerous addiction and temptation is for a young person.

People, we aren't in the 1930s. Oddly enough the weed scare happened right after one of the biggest failures in American history, alcohol prohibition. So why must we fret such a peaceful substance? Becasue some flappers say so?

I have been a biomedical researcher over the last 4 years and one of the areas we are currently doing a great portion of our research is on cannibinoid compounds (i.c. marijuana). Adolescent mice as well as full grown mice given doses higher than those attainable by smoking and/or eating even the best marijuana show absolutely no side effects consistent with addiction or developmental problems as a result of these doses.

This sounds like another article out of the religious propaganda manifesto written back in the 30's and is consistent to the horrible reefer madness movie. To have marijuana and meth in the same categorical terminology is like saying saying a small scratch and losing a limb are the same. It is categorically unethical and misleading. Additionally, alcohol is the most mind altering drug and has an extremely high propensity for addiction, and then tobacco is one of the most addictive drug (50% of the people who try tobacco become addicted), while having widespread health related effects besides cancer, such as its role in mimicking the adenocorticotropin classes of hormones. So why isn't US news writing article about how children should be stay away from alcohol and tobacco which have scientifically proven addictions and widespread psychological and physiological consequences?

This article is a disgrace to good journalism.

I would say that alcohol addiction has ruined more families, lives and killed more people (the drinkers and those who have been killed by drunk drivers) than pot ever will. It just seems kind of silly to me that this author condones alcohol drinking (I guess because it's legal) when it has ruined so many lives.

To even have marijuana in an article about addiction is simply ignorant, misleading, and self serving. I've known hundreds of people who have smoked pot since the 70's and have NEVER met one who had any type of addiction to it. Marijuana is a mild, non-addictive drug which should be decriminalized at once. Saying that the penalties for it's use and sales far outweigh any potential harm is probably the understatement of the century. Let's all try to convince our politicians, courts, police, and others with a vested interest in pots' criminalization to pull their heads out of their behinds, grow up, and do the right thing, finally.
