Seems to me food and food perservation has been around for a while now, and we still have not figured a way to keep from getting sick from the food we eat. We finally find out how to keep food safe and something new way comes along. I think tighter guidelines should be drawn up to keep us from floating around the danger zone of food safety.

If we are trying to fix a problem, then the last thing that we need is more government intervention. Let's not turn into a country that refuses to think and solve problems for itself, but instead turns to the government to do the thinking for us. That way of thinking has been tried and tried and has failed miserably every time...just ask China, Cuba, and North Korea how it's working out for them.

We don't need more government, we don't even need more laws on this issue, nor most issues; what we do need however, is to utilise and enforce the laws we have using the staff we have.

I want to see some heads roll. I want to know why instead of doing their jobs, these so called inspectors were asleep at the wheel. I don't want to hear about how they are understaffed; I've seen government inspectors at work, they aren't understaffed, they are underworked. Lets get these folks some incentive to do the work they are hired to do, say like, GET TO WORK OR YOUR FIRED; yeah, that should do it.

I want to see heads roll in the food production industry too; in light of the fact that the facility KNEW it was infected, and STILL did nothing about it, well, I think there should be some hefty sentencing. With 7 dead, hundreds of reported illnesses, and god only knows how many unreported illnesses, it seems to me there are at least a few people that were involved in the decision making process who should be getting a life sentence for the deaths of those people, and a consecutive sentence for conspiracy to commit crime, and should be sued into bankruptcy to take care of damages for the dead and ill.

No scott I don't want more government workers. I want every one at the plant that knew the salmonella was there to go to jail for manslaughter.

If we'd start enforcing our existing laws properly then I predict a lot of this kind of pathetic stuff wouldn't happen.

People do mitigate risk. And if the people who discover these risks know they face jail time then I'd bet they'll take the personal risk more seriously than the financial one.

I never knew that it is that severe! i have 21 nieces and nephews and a daughter of my own and they all LOVE peanut butter! thats a very scary thought to know how many cases they have on deaths and sicknesses. I pray that this crazy situation will pass ASAP!!!

Oh it's soooo scary. Give me a break. If you're really that scared of being poisoned by the food you eat. do us ALL a favor and stop eating. What a sniveler !!. And what "Bug experts" would those be that are so scared? Name them. The food supply is safer now than anytime in history. And you're much more likely to die in a car accident. It is a shame that people have died. But people die everyday and will continue to do so. Must be terrible to live in fear of things you have no control over.
