Hi Nancy,

I just came across this post. I wish you hadn’t approved so many spam posts. It took some time to page through and get the real comments. I won’t be one of the people that say thy had pets for 20 years and never got sick, because I know that there are folks that have gotten sick because of their pets. I just wish you would have backed your post up with some other sources and solid numbers. For instance how many people got sick from this or that type of animal and where in the world did this happened. Your article makes is sound like this is a “major” risk when in fact it is a small risk in most cases. I admit I am a dog lover and so bias in their repect but... If for instance dogs or cats were a “major” risk, because of the millions and millions of homes with these pets we would have thousands of reported cases wouldn't we?

Little children should not sleep with pets,I have several kitties that like to cuddle on my head and cover my nose so I feel sufficated.

This article was obviously NOT well researched, if at all. It is absolutely absurd.

I had many pets of various sorts as a child and as an adult and I never got sick from any of them, *only* from other children. You know, the ones whose parents didn't bother teaching them to wash their hands?

This is just nonsense. I just had to laugh. I have had pets since I was 6 days old. I have had cats, dogs, turtles, snaked, birds, fish, ferrets and rats, yes rats. Domestic rats are much cleaner than people give them credit for and are great pets. They are wonderful friends for young children who are supervised and know how to handle them gently. Hell I knew a 3 year old who could handle them with care and knew not to go near the cage unless her mommy was there. It's all about parents actually having to responsibility to teach their kids how to treat animals and supervising the interactions. The only dangerous thing about animals is the stupidity that is so prevalent in the human race today. Someone needs to seriously grow up, hop off their soap box and join the real world.
