I find this very intriging in terms of possible treatments and down the road perhaps a way to prevent this or a cure. With in my family there are both autistic and schizophrenics. As well although not relevent to this article is a direct line of ovarian cancer with in our history. Sarafina I believe you!

My son didn't speak til 3 and he had his own gutteral language. I learned his language and taught him English. At 19 he became schizophrenic and of course still is. The word Autism has been tossed around him for years - do to his problems with his thought to word process. Today was the first time I made the connection between the two. Where do I go from here? What do I do? Who will believe that this is a leap of logic?

People with schizophrenia also have speech problems. They have a type of speech that is similar to people with stroke induced aphasia. Thought blocking, word salad. Schizophrenics also have difficulty processing auditory input (as does the autistic person).

My daughter had been labeled autistic at three - then developed schizophrenic presentation at about ten years old.

It would be great if the Drs. who are handing out these diagnoses knew this. The mindset out there is that Schizophrenia is a mental disease and Autism is a neuropsychiatric condition, when they are more similar than different. To help someone with either title, social skills are needed to be learned. They may be one in the same for all we know now. Obviously mind altering medicines have their effect & a delusion can be a twist on a truism. So the diagnosis is up to the Dr. with the title who may just be feeding the drug companies. Who's to say? Much too much subjectivity out there!

Please read these articles;

It states that mental illness is connected to a bacterial connection,and therefore passed through generations.

There is a new treatment called the Marshall treatment that aims to eradicate these bacteria via very low doses of specific antibiotics.

I would also do a complete cleanse and start a specific carbohydrate diet.
