Would You Rather Be Out for Your Colonoscopy?

A timely article for me, as I'm up for my colonoscopy before year's end. Because of family history, I do this every five years. We have a high deductible plan, and we'll be shouldering most of the $1,500+ cost. I don't mind; my Dad died of colon cancer after a 4 year struggle, and it's a tough way to go. To put the costs into perspective, our family pays about $2000 each year to maintain our cars. My life is more valuable to me than our cars, so I have no problem paying for this. It's all a matter of priorities.

Doesn't anybody "get it" that this is going to become a test that people will not pay for in their "high deductible" plans? That's the idea. "Put consumers back in control of their health care" and avoid these expensive tests. Katie Couric will keep getting one at regular intervals. You won't.
