Patsy of NH,

If you have diabetes then your insurance will cover a visit to a dietitian who can help give you a meal plan that will help you lose weight and control your blood sugars. I am a dietitian myself and see many patients with this issue. The trick is to know your portion size for carbohydrates and to have a little at each meal to help with blood sugar control. Good luck. You can do it.

What do you do when you are a hypoglycemic diabetic like me? I have tried cutting back & just about everything else but the minute I try to cut the carbs my sugar drops down into the 40's, 50's, 60's, etc. It gets totally out of control. My clothes are usually granny sacks now & I used to be a very proud person. I still am but I'm beginning to slide simply because I have just given up & given in. Now I try to hide what's there when I used to be so proud of myself.

Any advice will help. I have gone up to 200 lbs. when I should be around 160. (At my age) I was 118 when I got married, a long, long time ago.

I lose 50 pounds and got to a size 10. Watched what I ate and exercised five days a week before work. My work schedule changed and I stopped the exercise. Well the weigh came back. Now I have to start again but I know I can do it. I eat right and my exercise is right after work now. To start I go five days a week and to maintain my goal I will then go three days a week. Right now I have lose 10 pounds and really like the way I feel.

6 years ago I lost 15 -- 20lbs: It felt SO good; I was size 2 for the first time in my life. Felt and felt great. Did it by cutting out fat; logging what I ate and exercise -- sometimes twice a day.

Somehow over time, I let my self go and now need to lose at least 15lbs again. I know I can do it as I've done it before.

Each day is a challenge.

My advice is to take it a day at a time. BE SURE to get a good strong support network, people who champion you, praise you for going to the gym and are on a similar path. It would be impossilbe if everyone around was always at happy hour or eating desserts like no tomorrow.

Best of luck to everyone in the same boat as me... just imagine how you will look and feel once you meet your goal. Can't wait to buy a new size 0-2 dress :)

Is shouldn't be called a diet, it should be called a lifestyle change and you should try to do it for good. This from a person like me who has FAILED everytime I try to DIET! Eating healthy costs way more than eating Junky so I had to get over that. Portion control is the key, don't eat to get full, try not to gobble your food (pause or put the fork down between bites) and once a week, if you have a good week with food, treat yourself to a small portion of something you like that is forbidden. Deprivation will only make you BINGE if you give in to temptation. EXERCISE! EXERCISE! EXERCISE! Don't believe any DIET that say you can lose weight and eat what you want because if that's the case, NONE of us would be overweight! You cannot lose weight successfully without some sort of activity. It's harder for me because I have a sedentary job but I make a habit of trying to get up as much as I can during the day. There are plenty of low impact workouts for people who are sorely out of shape and want to start working out. Nowadays, you don't even really need the gym, there are so many things you can do at home. ALWAYS LET YOUR DOCTOR KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING especially if you have a health condition.

If you really want to lose weight. Just don't eat. Tape your mouth shut, then go weigh yourself.

It might be the only way you can lose.
