Carol, try a diet change to low-carb, moderate-protein, and high-fat. While low-fat, moderate-protein, high-carb works for some people, for other people it doesn't affect weight. Eat meats and fish and low-carb vegetables with herbs and spices and fats like olive oil and butter as garnishes.

Or at least tone down the aerobics, and increase the weight-lifting portion of your exercise routine. Try heavier weights and 6-8 repetitions.

Dear Dr.

I have been excercising five days a week for about two years, pretty faithfully. I do erobics and lifts weights by following a routine on a DVD. I eat mostly whole grain, anything I can buy low-fat I do,Skim milk, low fat cheese. I eat healthy breakfasts and I cook homemade meals nearly every night. My problem is I have such a hard time losing weight. Even two to three pounds would be a major victory for me. By lifting weights I feel stronger but I really don't SEE a difference in my body shape. My legs are still very chubby and I'm still very tired during the day.

I'm wondering if I work out too much. I've read where you have to maintain a certain heartbeat level during aerobics. Is there such a thing as pushing oneself too much? I quess my question is should I maintain a certain level heartrate and not go any higher? also, If I don't feel any muscle soreness from lifting weights can I lift the next day again or should I still continue to lift every other day?? This excerise stuff is confusing. It's more than a matter of calories in and caloreies out. I only have about twenty pounds to lose but I feel so defeated. I'm trying so hard. Please help!!
