Before a person relies on this list, he or she should really visit the facility. Conditions can change in a very short time. One facility mentioned had large holes in the walls of several rooms. Patients have waited all too frequently up to 40 minutes to be assisted to the toilet after pressing the call button. One aide came in after about 8 minutes, turned off the call light, and did not come back until 37 minutes had elapsed from the time the call button was pushed--a visiting nurse tracked her down and insisted she help the patient. Personal items were stolen the facility says it has no responsiblity for lost items. Patients were given medication for C-Dif even though they did not have symptoms. If this is one of the best facilities, what happens in the worst?

It is so sad that Pennsylvania is only on this list twice, when it has the second larger elderly population in the U.S.

I think most people do not realize how difficult it is to balance CMS regulations with family expectations. As someone who works in a highly rated nursing home, I wish CMS would realize that their MDS forms waste a lot of my time that I could be spending on direct patient care. And I wish families would realize that i AM trying my best for their family member, but I HAVE to work within the regulations given to me. Kudos to those on this list who have found that balance.

i just removed my father from Cabrini of Westchester and have filed a claim with the health department for medical neglect and mistreatment. How can you list them as the best. Many families have made complaints to the facility that have been swept under the rug.

You should have a surveillance camera to see what i see and have experienced!!!

Congratulations to all on this list, but especially to the Little Sisters of the Poor both in Pittsburgh and in Newark, DE. The Little Sisters of the Poor do the work of the angels and their Homes around the country and around the world are true homes filled with love. The Little Sisters really know how to care for their elderly brothers and sisters. God bless them!
