I think most people do not realize how difficult it is to balance CMS regulations with family expectations. As someone who works in a highly rated nursing home, I wish CMS would realize that their MDS forms waste a lot of my time that I could be spending on direct patient care. And I wish families would realize that i AM trying my best for their family member, but I HAVE to work within the regulations given to me. Kudos to those on this list who have found that balance.

i just removed my father from Cabrini of Westchester and have filed a claim with the health department for medical neglect and mistreatment. How can you list them as the best. Many families have made complaints to the facility that have been swept under the rug.

You should have a surveillance camera to see what i see and have experienced!!!

Congratulations to all on this list, but especially to the Little Sisters of the Poor both in Pittsburgh and in Newark, DE. The Little Sisters of the Poor do the work of the angels and their Homes around the country and around the world are true homes filled with love. The Little Sisters really know how to care for their elderly brothers and sisters. God bless them!

I'm just so darn proud of my remote Alaskan town's Native-run Quyanna Care Center, and all the dedicated staff who work there. Quyanaqpuq and congratulations!

To Stephen of Hampton Court Nursing and Rehabilitation Center of North Miami Beach FL,

On February 8th you posted a comment here that Hampton Court should have been ranked on this list. You indicated that your center has "been 5 star rated for than 15 years consistently" and you inquired why you were not on this list. Your center was not on this list because it was not 5-star ranked in all possible categories for the past four quarters. By examining data found on Medicare.gov - Nursing Home Compare, you will notice that Hampton Court has the lowest possible score for RN staffing (1 out of 5) you have half the amount of RN nursing hours per resident per day than your state and the national averages. Your quality rankings are also sub-par (4 out of 5). Your residents have more than twice the amount of pressure sores than residents in other nursing homes in your state and the nation. Your center vaccinates for seasonal flu and pneumococcal at approximately half the average rate for the nation and your state. This data also indicates that your center is licensed to accept 120 residents and that you only have approximately 100 residents. If you were 5-star across the board perhaps you would be full. Perhaps Hampton Court will consider doubling the number of RNs that it employs; these nurses might help to improve your quality indicators by reducing pressure sores. Information like this helps to improve individual nursing centers and this field. Good Luck.

Nice article.

At some point it should probably touch on the expansion in this industry in and around Nursing homes. Independant Living communities linked to Assisted Living communities linked to Nursing homes or Specialized nursing/rehab facilities. The entire industry is exploding and the cliental is growing by 65000 new participants a day.

I own one of the mentioned facilities. Is there a way to get some sort of plaque that indentifies our listing that we could hang in our lobby?

Advise,

I believe that Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare Lakeshore Manor received this distinction previously. Can you tell me the year that it was reported in US news and world report?

Thank you
