Why a Few Bad Nursing Homes Get Special Treatment

How about giving advice to PATIENTS who are in nursing homes?

What should the PATIENT do if he or she is not being treated properly?

Why is it always assumed that the PATIENT must be completely passive and dependent on relatives to deal with bad situations?

Almost all of the for profit nursing corporations run their homes in the same manner; cut costs, maximize the profit margin!

CNAs the core of any nursing home are reduced to two on a unit usually with staff to resident ratios of 1- 15 or more! Quite naturally while the company reduces it's labor costs, the quality of care goes down!

Obviously the way things are in area nursing homes is NOT good. That is why family members must band together. Nursing home workers must also get together and demand better working conditions along with safer and more humane staff to resident ratios! In Texas nursing home workers for the most part do not haave a union to represent them. By the same token nursing home residents and/or family members tend not to be organized as well. Thus we have the conditions that are so prevalent!

Hi,

I just came upon this site and I hope you have received your records. I went through the same thing and wrote and called the NYS Dept. of Health and cited Sec. 18 of the NYS Public Health Law which indicates you are entitled to them.

As I said, I hope you got them and this will help someone else going through the same problem.

Why hasn't Adult Protective Serve ice investigated this facility, it has such poor scores in their Health Inspections, I can't believe they still have a license to run this place. I would be very concerned about my loved one. I am concidering a facility and I would not want to go here.

Medicare and Medicaid should open their eyes to the living conditions and care that isn't being provided. I know people that work here and the things you hear are shocking!

I was sent to Huebner creek after fusion in my spine, and a plate put in. The infection set in right away, and as I saw the

fluid come out, I asked for a Doctor, and never got my spinal

surgeon to look at me there. Dr. Guy Fogle finally got around to

having me checked, after I was in Huebner creek approxiametly

7-8 days, I was prepped for surgery again, and because of the

busy schedule was again delayed another day. Infection set into

the deep tissues, and I am still on strong anti-biotics after

4 months. Unless they are able to remove the hardware placed in

my back, I will be on heavy anti-biotics the rest of my life.

At Huebner Creek, I was left to lay in the infection that was

flowing out of the wound, as they did not want to have to change

the bed, as I would just get it dirty again. ( This was what one

Nurse said to my daughter when she was visiting. I ask ed for a

Doctor for a few days until finally one was sent to me, and just

sat there asking questions, like nothing much was wrong. They

tried to insist that I go to the dining room, to save their

staff work, when the stench from my wound was unbearable. Physical therapy was a must, even with the wound draining, like

vanilla pudding. As I was walked around I saw the surgeon Dr.

Fogle in the center of the hallway visiting and laughing with

the Nurses, but he did not visit me.

I had two more surgeries after the lst one, due to the infection

getting such a hold on me.

They were going to send me back to Huebner Creek, and I refused

to go, I went back to Del Rio, where I had to pay about $500.

for medical supplies, as I was on an in home IV for the next 6

weeks.

What has happened that surgical patients are not getting surgical care, after such a serious operation? Why are serious surgical patients sent to a Nursing Home type facility, after

serious surgery?

At this facility, I saw the real elderly propped up in their

wheel chairs, their heads bobbing over in sleep, while putting

in time for physical therapy.

I do say this place needs a more thorough investigation.

patients sent to a Nursing Home should not be surgical patients,

and treated as I was.

It was a horrible experience, and there is no end to the memories of the injustices served/

Have you become aware of www.aperfectcause.org, which is bringing to the media the sexual abuse going on in faciities that care for the elderly?

Big cooporations are involved in purchasing nursing homes and assisted-living facilities. A lot of what the family members witness and report on, goes into a round file on the floor.

I was intimadated by a director of a facility when I disagreed with her treatment of the residents. She wanted me off the property. An officer explained to her that would not happen. She waited for me to come out of the facility one late night in her SUV by the front door to let me "know" that she was going to be in charge. She thank heavens has been dismissed from that facility. But, she has a felony record that is sealed by a court, which she paid for on file. It shows that she gave an old man $100 for a house and a car. When, his family found out, the police were on their way to arrest this woman. She was fired and her next position in the neighborhood led her to becoming the director of the ALF. There are serious flaws in a system that is open for residents that are victims time and again.

State of Florida has allowed the Assn of Nursing Homes to mandate very few opportunities for suits against them for negligence, for abuse, for lack-of-care. In other words, come to Florida, end up in a nursing home and either be legally robbed or left to die in a very unnatural way......unguarded and unprotected.

Under staffed with uneducated and uncertified aides care for the elderly. The seniors become victims of diets lacking in taste and nutrition because of budget costs. Linens supplied are of cheap materials. I put up a towel on a rack and watched to see when it would be changed. Knowing how "special" the towel was because it had a big hole. I knew when it stayed on the rack for one week, w/o being changed.

For 2-2/2 yrs. my Mother was in 2 assisted-living facilities, one rehab, several hospitals and one nursing home. She was shoved by staff. Hit by staff. Threatened by staff. Stolen from by staff. Not fed by staff a proper meal. Surrounded by filth. Had meds disappear, along w/incorrect meds given to her. She was ignored by staff. Left in a wheelchair too long by staff. Staff told me that it was inevitable that she would die from an infection, so why bother? Promises were made as far as care. Promises were broken. My 86 year old Mother died with a heat rash covering most of her torso. Totally preventable. She had two bedsores on her buttocks, the size of a silver dollar and two CENTIMETERS deep. She had three pressure sores, that I never knew about. She cried in agony and did not understand as to why? Yet, the CEO of the nursing home and the hospice nurse, told me "that's the way it is". Medicare paid for the poor care that was administered to my Mother. I sat with my Mother day after day, I saw her decline very rapidly in a facility that charges $100k to move into the apts. downstairs. A crime was committed in the lack of care for another victim.

- you want a nursing home story. I have one for you. The hampton center for rehab and nursing did not respond to my request for my fathers medical records. By law they can not with hold the papers from me and that is just what hey are doing.

I will give you a good interview. to speak my truth.
