So Its looking like I will need to put my mother and father in an elder care center. My mother is showing signs of Alzheimers, and my dad is getting pretty frail and cant take care of her. IS http://preferrednannies.com a good service? I could really use some help.. Thanks for the post.

It appears that you have studied Al and HCC facilities. What can you add about the CCRC? When should the resident receive a refund of their deposit (usually similar to the price of a condo/home)? Choices are: move from Independent Living to Assisted Living, move to Health Care Center, move off the campus, death. Would like to have your opinion. Thank you.

Excellent article! I have met Mr. Carlson and have read many of his publications, e.g., 20 Common Nursing Home Problems and How to Resolve Them. As a long-term care ombudsman, trainer for ombudsmen, and an advocate for Florida long-term care residents, I found this article to be most helpful. The nursing home industry needs as much scrutiny from consumers as possible!

As a Medical Facilities Inspector,

It seem that CMS would allow more law enforcement powers to the Inspectors to charge as well as cite nursing homes who are in violation of major health care regulations ans state and federal laws. In some states the Inspectors are not sworn officers of the law.

I have stated repeatedly that it is commonplace now that many places where we go we are on camera, such as banks, stores, et cetera. I believe it would be wise to have it be standard procedure to have cameras in nursing homes. In my opinion, this would serve two purposes. One purpose would be to keep workers or visitors from being falsely accused of inappropriate actions, theft et cetera, and the other obviously being to prevent elder abuse, theft et cetera. If there is nothing to hide, accountability is a good thing.
