Great data, I love this site. I would love to have 2 questions addressed: 1. How would you interpret the data if a nursing home ranks as 5 now but was immediately prior to that ranked a SFF? Also, how do you balance proximity and the ability to visit with staying with level 3 or above? In my area, the few nursing homes are ranked as 1's, and I will have a challenging commute to get to a 4 or 5 level home. As the only family member in the area, which is better for my elder relative?

Thank you so much for all of this VERY valuable information. I feel like I have a starting point and for once I actually received information I feel good about.

You should consult an elder law attorney, who can help your parents sort this out. There are ways to preserve assets and income for the well spouse that still allow the sick one to qualify for Medicaid, but it's a tremendously complicated issue and needs to be set up properly.

What to do when two parents live off of one soc sec check, with no other income, and only one parent with alzeimers needs to be in a nursing home immediately. How does the parent in good health survive financially when the home takes the entire check to care for the nursing home patient?
