The article does not mention ISO cerification. It is a real stretch to apply ISO 9000 standards to a healthcare "factory." The comments about "Magnet" status are right on too. It just an advertising, and recruiting gimmick. Leap Frog awards are another bought and paid for "honor."

Magnet status, Cardiac Status, Stroke Center....

All bought and paid for advertising. Nothing more and lots less.

My mother had surgery for one small cancerous polyp. The surgery dislodged artery plaque which caused her to die 10 days later. No attention to recovery details were given and she was 80! Would you thnk 80 is old enough to pay attention to plaque and possible circulation or recovery problems? Surgeon visited 2 xs and sent lackies into evaluate 'situation' for 10 days. Due to the surgeon manipulating her artery during surgery and admitting him maniplated her artery, she died. No lawsuit, no penalty, no attention or second thought given to why she died. Listed as a fluke of patient. Coverup occurs everyday in hospitals and doctor's office. How does a doctor live with himself causing a patient's death thru negligence and poor management? Are the hospital death numbers skewed? You bet. I will never trust another hospital or doctor. Are we the doctor's now? Maybe we would have better survival stats.

Nursing Magnet status is a joke. The hospital is notified of inspection and the administration forces practices in to place to impress the inspectors which are almost never followed in routine daily care.
