Hospital Patients Speak Their Mind in Satisfaction Surveys

I was in the hospital twice in the last couple of years. My husband has been there seven times. I can't count all the out patient visits.

This is by far the best hospital I have ever had anything to do with. The doctors know each other and work together for the benefit of the patients. The nurses are well trained and kind, compassionate and competent. The medical care in the Auburn-Opelika area tops anything I've ever seen in my 72 years.

I feel very fortunate to be able to count on the medical community here from the paramedics to the hospital staff. The doctors and dentists in our community have convinced me that they want us all to be well and happy.

Thank you all!! May you receive the recognition you deserve.

U of VA, first let me say that I am a proud member of the healthcare field and that I take my job very seriously, and I assure you, I am NOT a complete idiot. I back up John's comment that Healthcare workers are human and all humans (including you) make mistakes. While it is a well known fact that there are people in the field who should not be, it is also an unfortunate reality that errors and mistakes can and do happen. Not only in the medical field, but every other profession. It is irresponsible and immature to call someone a "complete idiot" for attempting to shed light on an issue which, understandably, is very sensitive to many people. I feel deeply saddened and angry whenever I hear of patients receiving poor care in hospital settings because I know that I, along with the excellent staff I work with, put my heart into everything that I do. Needless to say, it also upsets me very much when a patient dies or becomes much sicker due to human error, but working in the field, I can acknowledge that I am not perfect and neither is anyone else. Nobody wants to lose a loved one, EVER. But death is a part of life and there are countless more people being killed by car accidents, violent crime, and other tragedies every day than hospital stays. Please keep this in mind before you verbally attack another person. Especially if you have no real logic to back up your statement.

I lost someone very dear to me at the hands of a doctor, not because of

medical error, but because of medical neglect. Was never able to speak to

anyone higher than a patient relations representative. Administration does not

care to hear complaints or negative remarks, it does spoil their "image", so they

hide behind these people and in the comfort of their offices.

I agree, there is no more care in the hospitals, it is only business.

One of my family members went to the hospital. I cannot believe the wait for 6 to 8 hours in the er. The nurses in the ER tell you there is not beds available so they stick you out in the hallway. Your waiting for hours until you tell them you are going to contact the doctor or someone who could help you. Once you get up to your room they do all kinds of tests. Once they find out what you have they tell you to go home and continue the medication at home. Many people leave the hospital especially the elderly with pneumonia and they return only to have a second phrase of pneumonia because the first one was not treated properly and they did not keep you to make sure it is gone. So the patient returns to treat the second pneumonia but it is too late the person dieds.

There is no care in the hospitals anymore it is only a business. Sad trauma

John of NC, you are either one of the guily working in the medical profession, or you're a complete idiot. There is so much more I could add, but it would be lost on you.

Medical errors happen. Doctors and nurses are human and will make mistakes. It is unfortunate when it occurs, but it happens. Americans need to stop always looking for someone to blame when it happens. You cannot expect everyone to be perfect in their job 100% of the time. Hospitals put systems in place for check and balances to try to prevent errors from happening, but they will happen anyways. Mourn your loved ones when they die from an error, but stop always looking to see who you can blame and how much you can sue for.

Recently, a love one died at, Owensboro Medical Health System. I have heard of many horror stories of others dying due to neglect from the hospital. Please if your love one has died from neglect from this hospital I beg for your support and post your opinions. You may save another life. There has to be a stand to save future lives. OMHS needs to update their systems so nurses cannot over medicate a patient. There are systems that use technology so a nurse has to put a code number and then the patient information comes up. This prevents overmedication and allergic reaction of known medication. Furthermore, electric files should be placed in the new hospital so whenever a patient is seen his or her medical information comes up automatically and then this will also avoid any future accidents. This should be considered before any fancy building is built. What happened to my family member should never happen to anyone. Not only was the information down it was told verbally to nurses and doctors, and they failed to listen and now an innocent life is gone. ICU should have better regulations and not allow more than one or two people at a time at all times and limited the age limeit and they must be made to ware scrubs and gloves at all times to secure the patient from getting an infection. I would have rather gotten mad at restriction than lose this precious life. So please as many as can share your story. This can be a positive move, and if you are an employee. please consider my suggestions.

Thank You

My mother, Carole, was admitted to ER, having called 911 with the unusual heart attack symptoms that women have..(cold sweat, no chest pain, slight back pain, and feeling different than she had ever felt in her life). The entire experience at this hospital has been wonderful. My mom, 77 years old, ended up having to have open heart surgery, and a quadruple by-pass. The Doctors and ICU nurses were incredible. They were so caring. They were so expert in their care. There was not one time in the entire 10 days that my mom was in their care, that I didn't feel their commitment to excellence. The hospital was extremely clean, well staffed, and highly trained. They took time to explain things to my mother and our family. They had wonderful volunteers attend us while we waited thru the 5 hour surgery. I am from out of state, and at first, I felt a little concerned that it was a smaller hospital than some in the area. I really feel that our family was blessed that the ambulance took her to this first class hospital.

I was treated at this hospital, ER, ISC and 5th Floor. I was pronounced dead twice, don't remember the ER but was hit in the face by a nurse in the Unit, wasn't explained the CPAP unit they slapped on me for 3 weeks, also left in my feces for hours on end.I left the hospital to a nursing home with a huge bedsore I received from there. The doctor's didn't seem to really know what happened to me, but instructed my daughter to make my funeral arrangements by the end of the week. It has now been over six months and I am glad to tell you that I am a dead women walking at the age of 56. Wonder how many more patients left this facility in a body bag that didn't have to die. I don't refer to this hospital as Halifax, it HELL & Back.Come to find out after discharge my ER Doctor Dr. Melinda Rullan was not a critical care Dr. but an GYN physician from Purteo Rico and didn't have high reviews from her school. Need to check the qualifications seems like. Be afraid, very afraid. I'm just lucky my family monitored there every move.
