Why rate hospitals at all? Well, it makes good copy and probably strokes a few egoes. But how does it help the public understand how progress in medical care occurs, and how it benefit? These "top" hospitals do high profile research & teaching, and thrive on challenges posed by the toughest cases. I suggest that an effort be made to recognize equally those "lowly" community hospitals that also seek and achieve admirable care.

MEDICAL UNIVERSITY IS THE GREATEST!

What an outstanding medical center. Caring, paying attention to details and highly skilled physicians to say the least. Unfortunately, I have had the experience of spending time in various hospitals (including some other “big name” institutions) and Vanderbilt has been the most professional and competent hospital.

The University of California has two on that list - pretty impressive. But two things strike me. One - that it is funny to name UCLA's hospital after a former governor who so disliked the UC system. And Two - how sad that the University of California receives so much less support from the state now than it did in earlier days.

I had staph infection in my lung lining, 1997 - doctors and staff saved my life. In 2003 when I needed reconstructive surgery, went back, once again they brought me through some difficult problems - thanks to God for having such wonderful people to help others, bless all of them. And bless all people in the medical profession, I am blessed to have two nurses in my family as well.

Kudos to UCLA Hospital for again making the list of America's top hospitals. The medical center and staff are amazing and I am glad to see them get their just rewards. Hopefully, rankings (and press) like this will draw the best of candidates to UCLA Medical School, so they in turn can supply the country with more, excellent doctors. Commendations to Dr. Marshall Morgan and the highly qualified staff for their hard work and dedication.

Hospitals such as Mayo Clinic who don't take medicare should not be compared to those who do. They have a far greater influx of cash to attract top specialists and an unfair advantage over hospitals who do take medicare. Refusal to accept medicare should highly penalize a hospital and should be noted in their evaluation.

I spent 6 months at Cornell Hosp.in NYC and am so grateful to all the doctors and nurses that cared for me. I was a patient of severe septic shock due to a spontaneous ruptured bowel and was given 7% chance for survival. Amazingly, I made it and it's all thanks to the excellence and dedication the doctors and nurses and other various health-care staff have towards their patients. Saying thanks is just not enough. Cornell is the best!!

I started orientation as a nurse at Barnes this week, they hyped up that they've been a top 10 hospital for the past 15 or so years, and today I find out that they've slipped to 12th.
