Stewart Justman wrote an e-single on this topic--the emphasis on screenings/early detection of prostate cancer, and how it can lead to over diagnosis and end up hurting patients. Very interesting read: http://goo.gl/oMiVz

I think it is much more than just a coincidence that this study comes out before Obamacare goes into effect. They must think we are idiots!

This panel obviously has never lost anyone to genetically-caused prostate cancer. There is a big difference between old-man prostate cancer that is slow growing, and a genetic-linked cancer of the prostate. My father-in-law was treated too late for it, and he died before he was 70. The Group Health lab technician failed to report all the PSA results on my husband. So, my husband still worries that the cancer cells that were not removed by surgery, and radiation will crop-up someone else in his body. He lives everyday with that fear. It has ruined our close relationship. Please, guys, get your prostate tested every year, and do not let any doctors talk you out of it. Cancer is difficult to radiate completely when it is located in and around the prostate. Genetics do play a part in some prostate cancers, and those cases need to be monitored closely with the PSA testing.
