Can Your Mental Health Affect Your Longevity?

I liked this article and agree with it 100%. I am 87 and and grateful to be healthy. I am still very active and keep busy all of the time. I do everything for myself and seldom ask my daughters for help. They are more likely to ask me to help them.

I agree that attitude about aging is very important. So many people feel that when you reach 65 you are aol. I went back to school at age 66. I worked until I was 77 and did not want to retire then. Another thing that concerns me about my older friends is their dependency on so much medication, and sleeping so much of the time.

It also helps if your children realize you won't look like you did when you were 40 now that you are in mid 60's unless you have lost of tucks. Also, help your children at times with the grands but not full time. Continue to create a life for yourself. Do the hobbies you never had time for, volunteer if you can and keep your friends.

Join an exercise group. Join a club, learn new things like computer, digital camera, anything to keep your mind active. Luck of the Irish to you.
