Gee, what a shock. Corporations putting profit over health, safety and even human lives. Corporations socializing the costs associated with their profit making - keep the profits but foist the costs (massive medical costs) off on the public. Asbestos, cigarettes, junk food. All the same. This doesn't stop until the execs responsible for this are made to pay the full costs associated with the sale of their products.

An amazing article! But honestly, many of these things should be common knowledge. I guess they were in my day... but even this knowledge is slowly being obscured with respect to our younger generation.

There are too many sheep in the United States relying on a shepard to tell us how to live our lives. Through advertising on the wrong foods to sell us to make a big profit, to how to get rid of those pounds of FAT for the wrong foods we chose so they can make a big profit in the weight loss business.. We the people of the United States have within all of us the ability to make a choice in our lives. Some have let education slip by and not learned a very inportant message that knowledge is power. So we can make a more informed choice. How do you change how a business does business? We let them know by telling them and by not buying their product. WE the people can change the direction we are heading by each ONE of us taking control of are own lives and destiny.. Education is the key. Eat less and know what you are eating. The choice is our own.

Very interesting, but not new - note the original publication date! As a society, we need to realize that 'real' food is what we should be eating, rather than anything that anyone has created in a lab. As Michael Pollan says, Don't eat anything your grandmother wouldn't recognize as food. :) We need to rediscover how to cook and eat 'real' food.

Thank you for your very informative and frightening article. It appears we are at the"mercy" of big companies.

Needless to say, I am surprised how shortsighted these "money hungry" companies are. What will happen when their children outlive their grand children. I fear our species is heading for extinction!

No doubt the "third generation" is going to feel the effects of obesity and malnutrition.

We have a lot to answer for.

I have been aware of the added ingredients in foods since my undergraduate degreee in Food Industries, currently teach Human Nutrition at a local college. This is very unsetting and needs to be public knowledge
